The lack of nudging/vibrating of the controller (haptic feedback?) every time the ball touches the court when dribbling is what stood out to me the most. Maybe I've been playing too much 2K if that omission seems like a big deal to me lol

Re: NBA Live 18 - Demo Impressions
As far as gameplay physics go Live has 2K beat by a lot. 2K is so animation heavy that there really are no "physics" in the game. But as far as the gameplay overall, yes Live is still behind 2K for sure. I personally feel like they underachieved for having 2 years to develop the game. I think they had some of their priorities in the wrong spot. They should have focused almost solely on gameplay rather than things such as a story driven career mode IMO. But even with that being said NBA Live 18 has no shortage of realistic sequences. It's currently what's keeping me playing at the moment. Sometimes you'll see possession after possession of events that mimic real life and that makes it so much fun for me personally. Also the fact that when I play Live I feel like absolutely anything can happen. I don't see the exact same thing repeated over and over again. It always seems fresh. Overall I'd say Live is definitely going to be a purchase for me.Check me out: https://goo.gl/N8vDdZComment

Re: NBA Live 18 - Demo Impressions
Spot on comment here. You're preaching truth! haha! I agree. Pepole just need to try it. And if you're a bit tired of the other game, then anyone should consider giving this a try. Just to be different and see what this game has to offer. I admitted on my impressions, yes things are wonky at times, it's not perfect, and shooting feels off, but I'm having a blast with my player and I know the 5 on 5 will be great when I can fire up all the nba teams. And for 39.99 bucks, no brainer for me.I'm actually enjoying the game lol
The developers put THOUGHT into it. The players look great. The animations look grade. I don't really enjoy how slow people feel when sprinting, but it's something that can be patched. Also, the sound of a "block" is something that can be patched.
This is the right step and as someone who hasn't bought a live game sinceNBA LIVE 10, this game will be getting purchased by me.
Do me a favor. Try the game out with an open mind. Forget about 2K for a second. Appreciate what this game actually offers which is a GREAT my player mode and attention to detail. Stop writing the game off. TRY IT OUT.

They put in effort into this game. 100% fact, they did. And sure, I wish there were some things fixed, but I can finally say I won't have any problems buying 2 basketball games this year. This is a HUGE step up for the franchise. And I believe it's going to be good for the competition and I hope we can have 2 games to play for years to come.
I'm really pumped I can play poeple and finally have a chance at playing Defense. I really think Defense actually works on this game. I hope, like you said, with patches, they can fix some of things people are complaining about. I'm 100% looking forward to launch day. EA, you're getting my money this year.Comment

Re: NBA Live 18 - Demo Impressions
Yes or at least it feels that way. Cheesy blocks, bad A.I. recognition on rebounds, players feel heavy, shooting is stiff, lack of signature motions, slow basic unresponsive commentary, too easy to pass down court, too many cheesy lay-ups/dunks I mean players like Zaza just elevating for standings dunks, players look robotic in FT routine

Re: NBA Live 18 - Demo Impressions
I can't disagree with you more than this. I tried long passes down court and they got picked off every time. So you must have just gotten lucky. I don't feel it as being arcadey at all. For the first time in b'ball game in years, I feel I can play at the top of the key and do some on ball defense. AI is not that bad. I was able to pick up some awesome rebounds and I picked the point guard slasher. Like I said, it's wonky at times, needs work, but i didn't notice those problems you speak of.Demo is a 3 out of 10 for me. This game plays like a highlight reel arcade fest. Different strokes for different folks. Halftime and post game show is the same as it was in Live 16. Way too easy to do full court passes. Coach adjustments are still way too shallow. At times it felt like I was playing NBA Street or the old school Run-n-Gun arcade game. Just don't feel like a team NBA based game. Instead it feels like a 1 on 1 streetball game disguised as an NBA game. Teammate AI is brain dead which further make it feel like a 1 on 1 streetball game. The blocks are too over the top. Not every block need to be sent that damn far. Rebounding is just awful. You will see a player right there and not even attempt to get the rebound or if he does attempt, some how he misses it.
Oh well.......game look good in pictures though, depending on the player because some players look weird and don't look like the real life player.Comment

Re: NBA Live 18 - Demo Impressions
Maybe EA wasn't going for 100% SIM. I remember the old 2k games being pretty run and gun, 2k11, 12 even 13 were a bit out there, But you know what, they in my opinion ar ethe best 2k games ever made. It' hard line to tow when some people want ultra realism. I personally am A Burnout player, not a Gran Turismo guy. Realism doesnt' = Fun to me. I don't feel Live is that unrealistic, and the over the top momemts I see, for me, that's fun. Im' sure once we get the full features you can do more tweaking too.Yes or at least it feels that way. Cheesy blocks, bad A.I. recognition on rebounds, players feel heavy, shooting is stiff, lack of signature motions, slow basic unresponsive commentary, too easy to pass down court, too many cheesy lay-ups/dunks I mean players like Zaza just elevating for standings dunks, players look robotic in FT routine, Shaun Livingston hitting threes with the clock winding down really?

Re: NBA Live 18 - Demo Impressions
So I played the demo and I didn't think it was bad it was actually fun. I don't think it's a better game then 2k unfortunately I was hoping for live to make a run at them this year somewhere in my heart I want to like Ea after all I've been playing since it was Lakers vs Celtics and I was a huge basketball fan so the live series is a part of my childhood.
But I am sad to say that 2k in my opinion is a better game

Re: NBA Live 18 - Demo Impressions
Holy smokes does Jeff Green take 4 steps in that video without taking a drive? SMH it's sadly just like the real NBA.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B5_K...XTnbRiwlEFOT9g
These are the things I'm talking about I mean are they serious with these last gen glitch animations?
Klay Thompson looked like a person who never played basketball before reacting to J.R.'s move with his back turned completely out of position. Jeff Green traveled morphing into some finishing animation over 2 defenders. This is comically bad like something you'd see in a 2007 video game not 2017.
The player scans for Steph, D-Rose, Klay, Jordan Bell are absolutely awful. LeBron and KD look amazing I will give Live that.

Re: NBA Live 18 - Demo Impressions
Congrats and big thanks to the EA Team responsible of NBA Live resurrection... Well done guys!
The game is far from perfect yes, but after putting many hours on it today (I think you have to learn how to play it properly before making judgments and, specilly, forget about 'the other') I have to say that I am liking it, a lot...
I am definitely buying 2 basketball games this season and I will be playing a whole lot of NBA Live 18...
Cheers! ;-)Ignorance is Bliss...Comment

Re: NBA Live 18 - Demo Impressions
I think people will rate this game differently based on their tastes.
For casual people who just want to have fun - this could be a great game for them i can see it.
For people who are more nitpicky or just more into everything being "on point" detailed etc - i can see how the game will be very flawed to them from a gameplay perspective.
I think that live is taking a more casual "fun" oriented direction - and really live has usually always been about that.
While 2k is also pretty much casual - it has much more development and experience put into it and it makes it so the game has more room to impress in "sim" areas etc.
Live is still behind in development especially gameplay - when talking about the "details" and all that - so the gameplay will likely be more limited.
Is really not fair to even compare - it's as simple as live not being on the scene for as long as 2k - year to year without issues just always making new games.
The best we can hope for is that Live will become a great "Option" for when we get tired with 2k - especially if we have same instances as we did with 2k17.
It was quite a crazy year.
Now keep in mind i say option - but i'm referring to the more detailed oriented audience.
For more casual players - i can picture them leaning towards live.
And tbh - even some detailed guys might lean live - just because imo - if live ends up being more fun.
Fun often can't be beat. I enjoyed the demo just wish the one was longer - will likely reset and try other playstyles eventually. Since it seems past lvl20 you can't do anything.
Which i do not like - you should be able to keep playing - just not gain anything from it if that's reason why it's limited. Simple.
For live - it's very important to keep people interested - and putting a restriction on the demo is not a good way to do that.
That being said though - a better demo to me than 2ks prelude - in my opinion.
We'll see how 2k does this year though.Last edited by Leasim96; 08-11-2017, 04:39 PM.Comment

Re: NBA Live 18 - Demo Impressions
Kudos to EA. I am having a blast playing the Demo even though it is far from perfect. I tried the demo on both the PS4 and XB1 and I agree with what others have said that the game plays smoother on the PS4 than it does on the XB1 but I will be going with the XB1 option since I have EA Access and since I have plans on buying the XBox one X.
The thing I like about NBA Live is that it feels like I can just pick the game up and play. For $40 I will be getting the game.PSN: ckarlic

Re: NBA Live 18 - Demo Impressions
Live Run is much better than My park in terms of accessibility. You get in, you get out.
I understand 2k was trying to recreate the reality of actually playing on a real playground, but in a videogame nobody wants to wait.
Live Run is one thing Live gets right

Re: NBA Live 18 - Demo Impressions
For all the people discussing input lag? Is this in regard to shooting or dribbling? For shooting are you relaying on the shot meter to dictate when to release the shot? If so, this is possibly where the "Input lag" might be coming into play. Maybe WTF or a developer can answer but I would assume the shot meter is shot feedback and shouldn't be the primary indicator of when to release. The shot meter would most likely be a couple of frames behind the actual input of the controller and this is where most people feel the "input lag" when it comes to shooting. Just a guess on my part. Maybe a developer can chime in.Comment

Re: NBA Live 18 - Demo Impressions
Once you hit level 20, you can reset and try a new playstyle (or try a different path with the one you already did). You can also still play the live events. There will be more added throughout the demo time, so check back and try them out.Comment

Re: NBA Live 18 - Demo Impressions
If we try another playstyle i'm sure this means starting from zero ofc - but my main concern with that is.
I hated an aspect of 2ks career mode - this aspect was that cutscenes could not be skipped - especially the ones at the start of the career.
We do not need to keep seeing these cutscenes once we already saw them - if we can't skip them right now.
Please - add the ability to skip them. It is a waste of time to be forced to see them again and again. 2k doesn't seem to get this.
Even if you have to add an option to the demo to disable them - if that's easier?.
I just want to play without having to watch them again everytime i try a new playstyle.
If we CAN already skip them - i was not aware since i haven't tried. I just hope we can.
Btw - i have to commend live for ADDING the ability to reset / try other playstyles in the first place - in the demo.
As far as i can remember 2k only allowed one. Which was annoying because it meant if you wanted to try another playstyle / build you had to make one in another account. Who the hell wants to go through all that?.
Props to live on that - and like i said overall i feel the demo has been much better than 2k17s prelude.Last edited by Leasim96; 08-11-2017, 04:59 PM.Comment
