    Franchise Mode Improved Since Launch?

Hey guys, I'm considering buying NBA Live at the new sale price but just wanted to know a couple of things about franchise mode. I pulled up an OS article from launch that chronicled the issues with franchise mode (no draft scouting, no CPU-to-CPU trades, limited off-season depth, no bird rights). Were any of these issues fixed in a later update? If not, I'll stick with NBA 2K17. Thanks in advance.

Don’t buy Live for the franchise mode.

Yeah, I hear you there. I'm a franchise-only kind of guy so this game doesn't sound for me. I take it that most if not all of these issues were never addressed?

Even if you are franchise only kind of guy which I usually am, there definitely is at least $10 worth of content to be played through the Street mode which I find to be really good. You don't have to play online either. Every once in a while I will play some live events or 3 on 3 but most people are ball hogs that I have encountered.

Definitely DO NOT buy live for the franchise. I tried playing franchise mode with 12 min Quarters "Play the Moment" like in Madden but it's not as refined as it should be. Once they drop you into the game for a particular moment you are stuck in that moment until the end of game UNLESS you initiate the sim engine again.

With NBA Live 18 I already have more time played than NBA 2K17 and NBA 2K18 combined. I am definitely more of a casual gamer as I just don't have tons of time to put into these games like I used to.

Yeah, I should add that I love the game. I'm playing it a lot more than NBA 2K18, to be honest. I would say that 2K's gameplay is a bit deeper, but, Live's is a lot more fun.

Live is still just a work in progress at this point. But I've played the franchise modes in any sports games less and less over the years, so, I don't think 2K's is really worth playing, either. I'd take it over Live's, but the results I see in any franchise mode of any sport is beyond underwhelming. So I concentrate on the part of sports games I enjoy.

I enjoy Live more than I enjoy 2K this year. I doubt I will even buy 2K next year. I bought both games last year, too, but it didn't take long to realize that 2K was still king of on court play. This year, I ended up unpinning 2K from my home page and adding Live.

The only reason I bought Live again this year is that they had such a good deal on the game pre-order, and the demo was solid. For the prices you can get the game for now, it's an easy buy, just to play the parts you like.

I bought it at $30 and feel like an idiot now that it just went on sale, it has its frustrations, but at $10 I’d recommend it. However, don’t expect to be able to go as deep into it as you can 2K. It’s definitely more of a pick up and play game.

Update: Ya know, as I play it more and more, i really can’t recommend it with much enthusiasm. The game is so animation driven. Often, the CPU drives straight through your help defense like they aren’t even there (I’ve lost count of how many quadruple teamed layups I’ve seen), CPU takes about 90% of it’s shots from the paint, the lack of off ball movement is painful, idk. I think this is just a really off year for basketball games. I’m stuck playing 2K17 for franchise modes.

If you're a technical basketball, x vs o's kind of player, you'll enjoy NBA 2k18.

If you're an NBA fan who just wants to pick up the controls and play without having to worry about the fluff, NBA Live 18 is the game to get.

The game is $9. At this point if you playing more than a few days is going to be worth all your money. If you buy it just for franchise mode you will be disappointed. But if you will play the one (which many would argue is a better experience then 2k18s my career) and you would play ultimate team or play now, it's worth it.

Sometimes you have to search a few times before you get a game online if you're searching in play now. Outside of that, if you will pay even more than one mode I would say it would definitely be worth your money.

I don't blame you. 2K17 was last year's game and Live 18 is newer.

That was a error on me. I meant 2K18. I have both of this year's games.

I play Live 18 for Live Run ONLY. OFF-LINE this game is still last gen gameplay. I enjoy the game and I pre-ordered it before launch. I support the team and what they are trying to do. But let's be real about what the game is and is not.

I think everyone is being real. It seems like people are saying t hat 2K's gameplay is deeper, but less fun. That's just opinions. I would never tell someone that Live 18 is the more realistic than 2K18. what I will say, is that I only my time playing Live 18 far more.

And really, when I see the vast amount of complaints about how people play 2K on those forums, it seems like Live 18 might be a better option for the majority of video game hoops players. 2K18 is running into The Show territory, whereto game is getting bogged down with realism, and losing the fun factor.

For sim enthusiasts and people that want a deep franchise mode. 2K makes the most sense. But that's not everybody.
