Shattered Backboard

Hey everyone.

I am a 6'5" Sophomore and I threw down a 2 handed dunk this morning at my school gym and completely shattered the backboard. People were telling me that no high schooler had ever done that before, and I looked on the internet when I got home. I could only find two other high schoolers in America that have broken a backboard, and that was the amazing LeBron James and D.J. Magley from Bradenton Christian High School.

I was wondering if anyone else knows anything about high schoolers breaking backboards, and maybe how many backboards have been broken in the history of basketball.

Noel Ellis starting small foward on my high school team broke backboard during a game. He later played linebacker for Tulane University and was later arrested by the FBI over some kind of credit card scam

Someone broke it during one of my U18 Y league games. Sucked because they had to suspend the game.

my cousin has done it atleast 4 times during his playing career. non in game technically but just messing around at the gym doing normal types of dunks.

there are just alot of unreported instances thats all.. its nothing too too special. believe me.

the quality on some backboards suck

I'm not trying to be rude or anything as I would love to feel what its like to dunk on a 10 foot rim, but I think youre making it out to be a little bigger deal than it really is

theres been quite a few from high school all the way up to the nba. ones i can remember was the guy from ok state shattering a backboard during a game and darvin ham shattering the backboard during a ncaa touney game against unc. heres the file of it if it works

I'm assuming the statute of limitations has run out on this so.....when i went to orientation at the college I attended. I had a two hand dunk it didn't shatter the backboard but two bolts came out the back of the rim and it just slumped down.

My roommate and I slowly eased away from the court, and then got the hell out of there as soon as we could.

It all depends on what kind of rim it is. If it's an old, crappy hoop that doesn't have a breakaway rim I'm sure they happen too often.

Personally I've never done it, but I also never dunk w. two hands on non-breakaway rims cause it hurts like a mother most of the time.

I bent a rim once, never broke a backboard though.
