    Oh what could have been...

...In the 1998 NBA draft the Milwaukee Bucks drafted some German we never heard of named Dirk Nowitski. Then traded him for some guy we should have never heard of in Tractor Traylor. As bad as that trade was in real life. It was so much worse on a video game level. The Milwaukee Bucks would have been by far the best Video Game team ever. Not even the sonics from Super Tecmo Basketball could have challenged them.

PG- Sam Cassell- Two S's two L's was damn near a demigod on the NBA Live series. Easy to get to goal with him, and a killer jumpshot. By he would have been the 5th leading scorer on the team (videogame scoring not real life).

SG- Ray Allen- video game Ray Allen could probably beat Real Ray Allen and Jesus Shuttlesworth at the same time. The game couldn't make him soft. So for all digital purposes he was Jordan with a 3 point shot. Everyone on this board has beaten one of their friends (who was dumb enough to take the Spurs in a video game) single handledly with Ray Allen.

C- Dirk- why Dirk at C? When you see the 4 spot you will know why. Would have beaten every center in the game down the floor (can you see your buddy cussing out Greg Ostertag? I can). If by some act of God you were put in the half court set, you could simply run Iso for Dirk and score at will (if you didn't want to dominate with Ray Allen. I think this trade had real life ramifications. Dirk would be a legend, not just a top 5 player in the world. A man of Larry Bird stature (even though Bird was about 5 times better).

SF- Glenn "Big Dog" Robinson- Shoot the three, Drive, Post, and the rare videogame midrange game. The guy was an offensive force in real life when he wanted to be. In videogames they don't have the "heartless slug" rating. So he couldn't underachieve.

Now these 4 guys are devastating. But with a true power forward that Tecmo Sonics team would run them out the gym. Hell with KG or Duncan that tecmo team would beat them (remember videogames not real life). But the biggest undercon in the history of games is none other than Tim Thomas. Tim Thomas probably has never been rated higher than an 80 on any game. His real rating on the game was probably a 96 but the computer intervened and made an algorithim that wouldn't allow Thomas to be higher than an 80. But he is money from downtown, can put it on the floor, and can dunk at will. That is the deadliest combination ever for a guy who isn't that good.

    Bench
Between 98 and 2003 (team would be completely broken up by then at the latest) the following people spent at least 1 year with the bucks.

Dell Curry- money from 3...as is the starting 5.

Vinny Del Negro- perfect instant offense videogame guy.

Chris Gatling- never that good in real life but was very good to have on a videogame.

Michael Redd- another allstar who is money from 3

Rafer Alston- mister drive and kick on this team

Anthony Mason- you made need a rebound at some point and a good enough ball handler to kick it out for three to one of about 8 guys who could stroke it.

Toni Kukoc- yet another gunner from deep that can do some other stuff as well.

I'm sure I missed some people who also would have been just brutal. So thank you Milwaukee. Your trading of Dirk coincides with the decline of the NBA Live franchise. Talking about things that make you say hmmmmm.

If you have any free agent moves or trades that caused a great videogame team to never come to fruition please share.

Good god. Kobe, Zo, LJ (remember no chronic back problems in games), Bogues (always better and more importantly faster in videogames than real life) Glen Rice (see Glenn Robinson logic). Yeah that team would have been awesome I doubt that it could take that Bucks team on the videogame but I would take them over the Run TMC Warriors on Lakers vs Celtics and the NBA Playoffs.

Were the Warriors on that game? Because I sure has heck don't remember them. If I recall correctly, you had the two all star teams, the Bulls,Pistons,Celtics, and the Sixers from the East, and the Lakers,Spurs,Suns, and the Blazers from the West.

Ummm.....you may want to do your research of that draft and how the trade went down. Milwaukee would have NEVER had Dirk. They drafted him for Dallas as Don Nelson wanted Dirk and Milwaukee didn't.

Didn't the Bucks also get Chris Gatling in that deal? If Dallas wasn't going to trade, the Bucks wouldn't have drafted Dirk...simple as that.

All in all, the Bucks usually suck in the NBA Draft.

They were on one of those games. Lakers vs Bulls or Bulls vs Blazers but it was all the same game.

All those sites say the Bucks drafted Dirk. So at some point they owned his rights. Whether or not they chose to draft him for Dallas (who picked Traylor at 6) is irrelevant, point is they had him and gave it away for a fat dude.

Dallas had the #6 pick, and would have taken Dirk there before Milwaukee anyways....but the Bucks had there sights on Tractor from the get-go. The Bucks would NEVER have had Dirk. I know they "drafted" him, but that was part of the deal with Dallas as was giving the Mavs Pat Garrity (my bad).

The Bucks have a MUCH better chance of signing Yi than to say they ever would have sniffed a chance at Dirk.

I don't care. They picked him. Someone should have stepped in and said "Do we really want to trade a 7 footer that can shoot for a fat guy" and stuck Dallas with the fat guy. They drafted Dirk and traded Dirk. Who they drafted him for is not the point. They owned his rights. They did not have to make the trade with Dallas. Because they made that trade with Dallas we did not get to enjoy the greatest video game team ever.

I understand your point (and frustration) I'm saying someone should have hoodwinked them. I'm just saying someone , hell the janitor, should have said screw Nellie take that German guy and keep him.

On a side note I forgot about that Respert over Finley pick.
