Yeah...From what I've read the hardcore guys who really know bball and get nitpicky will need 2k, but Live's fun too. Just depends on what your preferences are, they're both good games overall.

I want a game that is realistic for the most part, and doesn't have any glaring gameplay issues.

I have read numerous posts about how the camera in 2k9 has frame rate issues. That is why I am leaning to Live.....however, is the control in Live bad to the point of making the game frustrating?

Framerate issues n NBA 2k9 is only with the 2k Cam and another view I believe.

The default broadcast cam is absolutely smooth though. If thats what you want to use.

And yeah it depends what type of basketball game you want to play. Sim? then NBA 2k9, Arcadey with small little aspects of sim, NBA Live 09.

Both are fun. Offline I definitely prefer NBA 2k9, but online, Live 09 hands down IMO.

Just remember 1 thing. Just because it doesn't play like a sim, doesn't mean it isn't fun. Hell some people would find Sim style boring.

I would play both and then make the decision from there.

And that surprises you? This guy has a history of being an EA *****. IMO

Anyway, to answer the OP's question. I have both and have played the hell out of both. I would honestly give both games an 8.5.

It really comes down to what style of play you like best.

Just some scattershot comparisons:

I feel like Live gives you more control over your player.

I feel like 2K is smoother, and animated better.

I feel like Live has better colors. More vibrant.

I feel like 2K has more signature animations.

I keep going back and forth between both games. So the only real answer is get both! :wink:

don't beleive everyone go with the common sense yes 2k9 is a better overall game but I have both and nba live for some reason is more fun dont be fooled live is ten times better than last year if you dont beleive it just rent it thats what I did now i'm buying it.

I know people don't trust EA but this game is far from trash and issues.

I hate to be the one that has to even think about defending an EA game, but as imperfect as it is, its still fun.

No it's not 2k9, but who gives a rats butt about that? Who wants 2 of the same games anyhow

As much as alot of these game company fanboys yell out how they need competition, they love to choke any of the life out of anything that isnt their favorite. It's ignorant and its silly to make posts trying to get people to stay away from another game as if it's your money.

People are trying to make decisions with their money asking for good advice and we have all of these posters who don't have the game, and these wanna be homemade bug finders lying about what the game is all about.

Alot of you guys will never be satisfied with any game because you pick and scratch like girls at every little thing and seem to have forgotten what its like to sit down and play a videogame for fun.

I own both games and I think they're both worth buying this year. All of these liars and fanboys giving you cheesy blog opinions and having convulsions over a review score need to be ignored as much as hacks like the goons on IGN telling 2k that they need to scrap plays out of their games that brought up that trash 2k4.

NBA Live has lots of potential but its not going to be a mountain top game overnight and if you expect that then youre unrealistic.

The DNA 365 thing is something all sports games like these probably need in teh future, because no matter what lies you hear play the game for yourself and see.. and this thing cannot be fully judged until the season is well into the schedule anyhow.

Im just sick of seeing the crap posts in here. You know who you are lying telling people this is an arcade game when you know good and well it has the best playcalling system of all 3 games.

I hate the kind of crap this time of the year brings to the boards.

i feel a few of us can intelligently discuss both games fairly and with some unbiased opinion. i just don't like the 30 post guys that pop up and add fuel where it's not needed personally.

i don't agree with many of the low scores the games getting though. i would love to go all out and start calling out these critics but i'm keeping it civil for the same reasons you posted that we don't stoop to the level of those adding fuel to the fire...

Let me also say that if you ask the question of which to buy and you are on a certain forum then the game the forum represents should be the automatic answer to ANYONE's question on what game they should buy. and with that i say to the original topic creator...

I would say he really should've asked in the basketball forum but its the same people that go there too. Im actually surprised by some of it, and its just a fact that he'll have to do his own research and weed out the hazy posts.

I think that if you have to ask this question, then probably pick up live. Only because I think that you are less than hardcore about basketball games. I think 2k is definitely not for everyone, especially the uninitiated. In Live, I like the feel of the players, the control I have over the players as well. I don't notice any game killing/glaring flaws within the game when you take it for what it is. If you only will play the game for a few months and not agonize all year over every issue in either, you can't go wrong with nba live 09.
