Re: For those with Live AND 2k9..a question.

I've heard some bad things about 2k this year, but... like I said.. 2k9 has better overall gameplay. It's just that Live is geared more to be competitive because it has counters for everything. I don't believe Live or 2k is more 'sim' they both are stupid in ways and sim in others. I've played 2k enough to see things that make me drop my jaw... just the same as Live.

People who say 2k is the ultimate sim are just buying into the hype. That being said, I believe that NBA Live doesn't try as hard to be a sim as the other does.

I don't know about these "bad" things youre hearing and I for one have not bought into any "hype". You can only take the games at the value they give you. 2k is clearly been more sim oriented than live for quite a while. And to try and rationalize a videogame to have no faults is plain stupid. This is the type backhanded comment that causes the 2k vs. live war. Your post causes me to want to get on my 2k high horse because I feel that they have catered to the more hardcore/sim player than live has over the years, and yet you want to downplay this element. Make no mistake about it, 2k is the leader, and with the exception of the graphics/art debat, live still has some catching up in the gameplay, ai, signature nature of the sport. That being said, this years game is cool. Its fun to play and has added some key components to create a worthwhile game.

I own both games. I won't say which one I like best because they both have their pros and cons. It does not matter what I think anyway. The ultimate decision come down to what you like. My advice is to rent both and decide which one you like.

          Just do what I did:

Download and play the **** out of both demos.

I'm not some hardcore baller or anything, but I found 2K to be the better overall experience this year, so that's the one I bought. I couldn't be happier with my purchase.

I actually bought both and I love aspects of both and they each have irritating issues. My plan was to finally make a decision based on retail copies but I think I have to keep both this year. I really can get enjoyment by switching back and forth.

NBA Live has lots of potential but its not going to be a mountain top game overnight and if you expect that then youre unrealistic.

Excellent post KDRE. I never get it when people do the above mentioned. 2K9 is a great game as is Live 09. Go with what you like but don't bash others who are not in agreeance. Just enjoy your preferred game and no one should be posting impressions if you have not played/purchased the game and dishing out false info to get the uninformed on your side. Very childish when this happens imo. Peace!!!!

Very true man, very true. Great post.

To the OP, I've only played the demos so far, and right now in terms of gameplay, I am going back and forth between 2k and Live. Both offer great things and both have things that might annoy you. In that aspect really all I have to say is that you should try it out for yourself.

Like you, I'm only a franchise guy, and right now I'm kinda leaning towards 2k for one simple reason - in Live, you're stuck at 82 games. I hate simming games, I want to play out each and every game and feel like I'm in total control of everything. I'm hoping that I can at least play 3-5 seasons before heading into the 2010 batch of NBA games, and I don't think it will be feasible for me with an 82 game schedule.

BUT if you have no qualms about simming games, or if you actually want to play out all 82 games, then this shouldn't be an issue for you.

That being said, I might be willing to sim some games this year if I find Live's gameplay to be more suited to my liking than 2k's. And if the demos are any indication, it certainly is possible.

alot of people are saying that LIVE is more arcadey than 2K.........well I kinda disagree. I have been having great, realistic games on LIVE. With a few slider adjustments, you can get a good sim game out of LIVE. I am a 2K convert by the way. I might still pick up 2K if I get the itch, but LIVE is definitely fun and holding it down for me.

I am kind of on the fense myself as to which NBA game to get this year. I have been playing the 2k series from the start and played NBA 2k7 and NBA 2k8 to death. Playing both demos, 2k9 does look a bit better, but i still feel like I am playing the same game. I haven't played Live since they INTRODUCED freestyle (i think it was the one with Stevie Francis on the cover).....so I think Live will feel totally "new" to me.

I would like if some of you can post what you LIKE about both games. Animations in 2k, DNA in Live, which has the better franchise mode, quickstrike vs isomotion, player movement, graphics etc....

I know 2k is probably the better overall game, but for some reason I find myself wanting Live more....

Some quick comments on the things that I love about both games:

                            NBA 2k9
                            - player faces and skin textures are better than Live's (imo)
                            - tv style presentation (except commentary)
                            - lay-ups, in-air collisions, post play animations (sick!!!)
                            - blocking is nice, so is the post game (plenty of animations to see)
                            - free throw routines
                            - crowd
                            - arena specific sounds, chants, etc
                            - adaptive ai
                            - generally animations are better

                            NBA Live 09
                            - perfect court spacing
                            - playcalling
                            - combine the two above, and you have a pretty nice flowing 5v5 NBA style game
                            - commentary
                            - overall, graphics are more polished

Regarding Isomotion vs Freestyle/Quickstrike, I'm indifferent at this point. I feel that both are well-implemented and serve their purpose well in the context of their gameplay. I don't have the retail versions yet so my opinions are based on the demos. (thus I can't really comment on Association vs Dynasty, and the overall play of the AI).

Hey to Live users, i haven't touched NBA Live in atleast 3 years cause I've bought 2K every year. In Live is there signature styles like in 2K? Like i remember in old games everyone would shoot the same? Is it still like that? sorry if this is a stuid question
There are signature shots, and I think a few signature celebrations, but it stops there. If you're looking for signature dribbling animations, or other stuff such as LeBron biting his fingernails, you won't see it here.
