Re: For those with Live AND 2k9..a question.

Thanks for all the input. It seems like the problems in 2k9 can be fixed with slider adjustments...Live according to Pasta Padre, not so much.

I had 2k8 and like all 2k b-ball games it takes some time to adjust and become competitive.

I think 2k9 will be this way, after a few blowouts you slowly learn the game and finally become competitive.

I just played both demos again, and too me you seem to have more control of your players in 2k9. In Live they seem a little .....spastic, for lack of a better term.

I guess now its payday (woo-hoo) I want to pick one up....leaning 60-40 towards 2K9.

You really cant go wrong either way but you definitely have better control in Live.

Again though, its hard to be disappointed with whatever choice you make unless you're just some nitpick or over expect.

Last game I remember that I had fun with was Live 06 (PC). This year its all about fun, I dont think I have been able to finish a basketball season since TV Sports Basketball on Amiga. Something usually happens that pisses me off or I just feel like I am getting cheated.
Yeah I know what you mean, things are going good in a season and then before you know it you dropped 6 straight games and the likes of Rodney Carney is putting 45 on you...sorry I'm still a little bitter haha. But yeah NBA 09 is real fun and the shot meter really makes you feel like you do have more control. It offers a lot more than the other games with features which is cool, cuz there are a lot of things you can play besides your season just in case you are getting cheesed. Also the life mode is real cool, check out the site on it, www.stepinsidethelife.com , Their isnt really a ton of buzz about this game which is weird considering it got the same rating as live on IGN.

Well I got 2k9 and promptly got demolished in my first game on default settings.

This game is HARD....very HARD!! I played the Knicks and they blew me away.

They shot 55%. The manual is good, but damn there is SO MUCH to learn in 2k9....

          ....now I want Live...LOL

Here, let me give you my "unbiased" "non-fanboy" opinion in why i chose Live09 this year..even though i've always been a big fan of 2k games..there's a HUGE diffrence in a fan of a game and a fanboy of a game..im what you call a fan of 2k games..including nba2k.

..this is a reply i made to another post but this may help you decide..

EDIT: Looks like its too late lol..you pulled the trigger on 2k9, owell, you didnt make a big mistake..both are good games i just think live is more refreshing and HONESTLY.. more fun!
            --------------------------------------------
Live09 feels refreshing to me this year..something new to the table with its plethora of features..its heads above what 2k9 is offering...when we compare "total packages"...more bang for the buck i guess you can say because you would be just fine with simple roster updates for NBA2k7 and NBA2k8 if you really dont have the cash for NBA2k9, honestly. While Live09 is nothing like last years or recent Live offerrings.

But for me..thats not the only reason why im gonna stick with live09 this year (yes i have both games) ...the framerate issues in NB2k9's selectable camera's kills it for me..hands down. I like the 2k camera and some stadiums it just affects the gameplay..now if the framerate didnt affect the gameplay then its a diffrent story but the fact of the matter is it does and i HATE any sideline view camera which is what they use as their default camera... and probably why they removed the 2k camera away from NBA2k9's online mode..bercause the unstable framerate with the 2k camera would probably be 10x worse online.

Look guys..im not taking away from NBA2k9's polished gameplay, awesome graphics and smart AI..its all good and if we talk about just those elements and compare them to Live09's same elements.. 2k9 hands down, gets the nod ..and it should, its had a solid foundation to build apon for years now while live09 this year is in its "rebuilding year" and to be honest.. *** **** Live09 is one damn fine game for being in its "rebuilding year"... you 2k fanboys..watch out for next year.. there's a new sheriff in town...lol

Ok but seriously.. NBALive09 is FUN and EXCITING to play ...there's no doubt about it. You see im not a fanboy of any game..i just go what feels good to me and what feels FUN and EXCITING and as a HUGE 2kfan such as myself..i hate to say it but im having more fun with Live09 this year...maybe its because im just getting tired of the NBA2k series pretty much being the same for the last 3 years while Live09 feels like a fresh new game? I dont know but im sure thats a big reason why im sticking with Live09 this year.

And no need to get all uptight about people saying Live09 is a good game this year...for one, IT IS and two..it will make NBA2k10 a much bigger better game next year..competition is a GOOD THING.

Oh by the way..you 2k fans..if you ever get it in you to try live09... and you like the 2k camera in nba2k games..TRY BASELINE LOW camera in Live09..lts PERFECT!!!

Re: For those with Live AND 2k9..a question.

I am going to get LIVE tomorrow because I simply can't take the terrible frame rate issues with 2K anymore and I also just prefer Live's "feel" over 2K.

2K is no doubt an awesome game but I HATE broadcast view as well as all of the "sideline" views and prefer the down court view but NONE of them work the way Live's do and theres just too much stuttering on 2K for my taste.

The broadcast view in 2K runs smooth as butter but the views I like (or the views that are more to my liking) have serious frame rate issues. Not like 10 fps or anything but just enough to get on my nerves.

Another thing that I just LOVE (and you all will probably think this is lame lol) but in Live you can almost always pull the left trigger to get a replay while in 2K you have to pause and fiddle thru the sluggish menu. And speaking of replays, in 2K, even when set to "frequent" you RARELY see a replay. Whats up with this?

2K is great for the hardcore/sim guy I guess but I just want a smooth running, easy to play BB game and i'm thinking EA's will be the right game for me this year.

It sure is nice to have a choice isn't it! You 2K fans have fun with your game! I'll get Live and we'll all be happy gamers!

heck, I may just keep 2K and get used to the broadcast view and have 2 great games : )

Re: For those with Live AND 2k9..a question.

From reading this thread, most of the people who prefer Live are giving the same reasons, 2K is too hard, Live is more fun, 2K is too realisitic and its boring.....These are the reasons you guys like Live but when somebody points that out, everyone denies and acts like Live isn't easier to play. LIVE IS EASIER TO PLAY and that is why most of you like it if I'm reading the posts correctly.....I'm just wondering why its so hard to be honest about that, if thats why you like, then just admit it. There's nothing wrong with that, I like Live too......Is it better than 2K? Yeah right, but its getting there....

I'm definitely interested in renting it for myself, a couple of my friends have it and Ive played it enough....I'm interested in the 5 on 5 because I love it on 2K but it never works and 2K's entire online interface is a mess.

It has nothing to do with ease of play. I think you're guessing wrong...

People just find the game fun, you cant just dribble move your way to the basket like you can on default in 2k, and the AI is fun, the court spacing is nice, the variations between players and the tendencies are outstanding.

Quiet as its kept, I think the DNA is working better than anyone expected.

I have the best answer about which to get.

If you played NBA 2k8 do not bother with 2k9.
If you played NBA Live 08 BUY NBA LIVE 09!

The difference is much greater in NBA Live 09 as far as improvement.

NBA live 09 is missing many flowing animations and realistic player models, but does everything else perfectly fine.

Re: For those with Live AND 2k9..a question.

stop saying that 2k is more realistic because it's not true. Yes 2k has better animations (shots contacts dribbles looks real compared to live) but - live plays more REAL.

2K's harder to play because there is no midrange game or open shots. Yes guys do get open shots in NBA. For example - when you playing with celtics there is no point giving the ball to Ray Ray or Pierce. There is no way you can shoot with these guys - but you can easily dominate with garnett. Sure you can drop close shot to 15 20 whatever but then it gets impossible to score with guys like Perk and Powe.If you drop def aware and on ball then you get to hoop at will. With default sliders, only consistent (way too consistent) option to score is backing down, shooting turn around close-mid jays or driving to the hoop.(talking about all star difficulty).

As for live i hate that guys like Rondo, Billups looks like creatures from outer space. I miss 2k's great animations, player models, real FT shooting for simulation but that's all...

I decided to go with a 2k9 purchase yesterday while I was at circuit city. I had both games in my hand and I was just staring at the back of each box. I STILL could not decide which one to get! My wife tells me to hurry the f**k up ....so I choose Live....My wife then stops to look at some camera batteries. I say hold on....and go back and get NBA 2k9 LOL...its crazy! I was still at home last night thinking should I open this or go back and get live. I decided to open it and it was pretty the game I expected it to be....2k8.5....which is ok since I loved 2k8. The main reason I decided to put Live back and buy 2k9 was because I just could not get over how ugly some of the player models looked AND how stiff some of the animations were on the Live demo compared to 2k9.

I will say this however.....I am kind of missing Quickstrike/Anklebreaker control, the pick and roll button, and the ability to drive into the lane....draw defenders in and kick it out to the open man (everybody is sticking to their man like glue in 2k9)......

....if I am somehow able to master this thing they call ISOMOTION , I may be able to enjoy 2k9 alittle better....but I have to admit, I enjoy reading in the Live Forum here at OS alot more than reading in the 2k9 forum....people in this forum seem to be having more fun with Live than 2k's group.

I am still contemplating taking 2k9 back to get Live...althought I am sure Circuit City won't accept my game since I opened it already? Worse comes to worse, I will just bring it to Gamestop for store credit towards Live.

while I agree too this to a point, 2k does have a ton of tendency problems( too much points in the paint, non star a.i. players taking a ton of shots), whereas with Live and the DNA feature, you should get realistic team and player tendencies imo

I believe realism would also include the mid range game, and realistic ball movement and floor spacing.
