NBA Live 09 VS NBA 2k9 – Real Comparison
As I’ve gotten 2 weeks into these games, I’ve really been enjoying the time. But I will say this, for those who want to divide the two on whose better and who’s worse! Well honestly both games have their ups and down. 2k9 went from SIM to a more arcade like game. While Live 09 took the opposite route and became more SIM after years of it being too arcade like.
Major differences also include game play aspects and presentation and the offer of features.
Well in the Comparison below I will post identical games, with identical teams. I will also post some photos of some players in the game. From 2k9 and Live 09 for you to see the graphics differences!
Both games have very unique graphic styles, but one is more detailed. NBA 2k9 while having a great eye for detail, is still using an old graphics engine which makes some models really seem more cartoon like but the detail remains remarkable down to every last tattoo.
NBA Live 09 has a Next-Gen graphics engine and started over from scratch after Xbox and PS2. And it shows, as their skin textures, sweat effects and overall look seems more detailed. To where player models look almost realistic, not to mention the level of detail they can get into cloth physics.
Not to take anything away from 2ksports, their efforts are incredible especially in the stadium formats, as Live 09 has the correct courts, the overall stadiums didn’t share the same detail and seem to be more generic with correct floors. As 2k9 took the time to get every seat, Jumbotron and lighting effect differently for each stadium, along with their actually stadium sound effects.
Where Live 09 and EA Sports focused on the correct and most detailed court floors and incredible crowd noise and commentary, I give them much credit on this. Again, everyone seemed to focus on their own individual efforts.
I think with a different graphics engine and a better level of commentary 2ksports would probably surpass EA. But since Take-Two seems to continue to cancel games and limited Visual Concepts and it’s team with old software, it allows EA Sports to put their money and technology where their mouth is, and continue to impress with Next-Generation efforts and continue to be in that loop, but if EA would focus on better lighting as they do in the NCAA Basketball series, and better overall stadium detail, they’d probably beat 2k, because all that is missing is better stadiums and a better presentation overlay and they would easily be king.
Because Dynamic DNA is definitely the truth in sports gaming!
But I will state one fact, this season we have two great basketball games, that both continue to short change us, EA without authentic stadiums and the lack of customizations to player models and rookies missing tattoo’s and things like that.
While 2ksports and VC continue to give us old school graphics engine with a new coat of paint, robotic commentary, broken online! And now player sliding, something that hasn’t been an issues since the past generation consoles! And a menu system that is just terrible! And poor excuse of editions, such as slam dunk contest and the continuation of street modes and things like that. Seems like they walked away from what was important to its fans. You should have left the dunk contest to the Live series, or just allow it during all-star weekend. The real meat and potatoes of the 2ksports series, was what’s on the court not off the court. Where are the nightly wrap ups and things of that nature that fans have requested since the demise and end of the NFL 2k Series?
So much we are gaining and missing from both Teams, hopefully one day they will give us a complete experience and stop short changing us. But overall we have two great games this season that can become amazing!!! With a few patches that is!!!
