I know what you mean.
Back in '95 it was enough just to be able to run in 8 directions and have a turbo and shoot button.
These days players want everything. Realistic play, realistic stats. I don't envy the guys working on the games. Especially with the constant yearly turn around, which the companies bring upon themselves.
Bball is a team game that allows for A LOT of individual creativity. So you've gotta create AI, animations etc for running each play. Then you've gotta allow for any bits of improvisation within each play. The defense has got to react naturally to any break in play.
I believe Bball is the hardest game to accurately replicate.
2K have covered the 'look' of the game better than anyone else. But I don't feel very 'in control' of what is happening on court.
Live doesn't have the last library of animations but I feel more in control of my player and what is happening on court. (I think having the 'skinny' player model help make it easier to see plays developing, openings in the defense etc.)
Yes, we should always be givng the devs constructive criticism to help them reach the perfect game. It is something we and they should always strive for.
The perfect bball video game may never come. Until that day I just ask that the game that I play...
...be fun,
...fulfills my basketball needs. I care not for accurate stats, just a fun game that feels like basketball. If I want 100% accurate then I will watch an actual game.
...allows me to think in 'basketball' terms
"feed the post"
"run an iso play"
"set a pick"
i don't want to always be thinking of complex controls
"okay, I'm in the post, now what buttons do I press, which trigger do I pull?"
Anyway I've rambled on for too long again, so I'll cut it there.
But yes I am a casual player as opposed to hard core. Most players seem to be *hardcore and that's great. More power to ya.
I'm just saying enjoy the journey (towards the perfect game) because we might never get to the destination.
