The first one, because that's how I call the teams when talking about them as well. I don't say "I'm going to watch Cleveland and Orlando play tonight", I say "I'm going to watch the Cavs and Magic play tonight." So that's how I want my teams arranged too.

I think of them in first name (city) order.

The reason is that there are 3 teams in the NBA that can occupy various spots in the order for nicknames: 76ers (numerals before "A" or "S"), Timberwolves ("T" or "W" for Wolves, I've seen both), and Trail Blazers ("B" for Blazers or "T", which I have seen in various video games).

Also, I often call teams by both names, but when it's one or the other, I think I use city name most often.

Sadly, one of my favorite pasttimes in class was to try and write down all the NBA teams on a piece of paper in a set amount of time. I have always gone in alphabetical order by city, as this is the official listing not only in NBA Live games dating back to the mid-90's, but also in basketball enyclopedias and anything else NBA related (aside from 2K). I've been conditioned as such.

City name. I used to mark each NBA city's name on my US map during geography classes in ninth grade. That's how I studied the US map. I remember noticing that there's Portland on the west coast and on the east coast. Of course, I knew the Blazers are from the west coast one, because I knew by heart on what conference eacth team plays.

I do the same, but by division. MLB and NFL, too. Alphabetically overall is kinda hard unless you've been practicing.

For some reason, I do it by city in the NBA, but by team name in the NFL, Madden style.

Maybe it's the EA influence............ even though I haven't really owned a Live since 2005.

And I consistently forget about Charlotte and most definitely Oklahoma City when I think about teams this way.........
