Double Dribbe pretty much jump started basketball video games. It was also tons of fun. So that gets my vote.

NBA 2K3 could be the best if it had 2K2's post-up game. I loved playing Live 99, I was amazed by the smooth gameplay and graphics. I always wanted to play ID but never had an Xbox... NBA Starting Five 2005 could be the best if the controls were better and the CPU didn't make any shot it took. I'm having a hard time deciding which game is the best...I wish it was as easy as deciding which NBA player is the best ever...

Anyway, From all the games I've played, I'd say NBA 2K3 was the best. Not perfect, but the best compared to all others I've played.

I really miss NBA Jam. I wish they would do a remake. It was so fun to play with four people. Probably the best overall NBA game for me (albeit arcade), in terms of pick up and play, and fun factor.

NBA LIVE 95. If I had that game I would be playing it to this day. IMO the single best human vs human basketball game of ALL time.

They made one in 2004. I thought it was pretty fun, even though it was 3D with 3v3:

I take this above statement back. I was in the shower this morning, and I was thinking back to all the great sports games I have played. And this gem came to mind, for the Commodore 64. I doubt if anyone has ever played it here it was released in the late 80's, it is a glorified (with some primitive animations) text sim, but it was easily the most fun and realistic game ever. It had all the greatest teams of all times including four teams from the 85-86 season. What is the name of the game? NBA (by Avalon Hill).

Bshadows for the WIN with that tecmo super nba. Oh my gawwd that game had the whole nba atmosphere down man. I loved the fact you could play any game. loved the plays. I played that game forever.

I just ordered my another supernintendo just to play my s/n hoop games and repurchased tecmo nba. I still have my box but lost the game somehow...
