Re: Any Former 2K10'ers Who Made The Switch To Live 10?
So I'm surfing the 2K10 video thread, the game is still played on an ice rink, more sliding than a hockey player, I think they confused the NHL 2K10 rinks with the NBA 2K10 HARDWOOD courts.
You'd think the #1 complaint for the 2K series, sliding, would get addressed after half a decade.
This is why I and others switch to Live. If Live has more animations and signature animations next year, that's all they need to leave 2K in the dust because animations is all that makes 2K buyers keep coming back. It just looks MORE REAL. But it doesn't play more REAL.
But more than anything, it's the jumping through 5 people and dunking that kills the deal.Last edited by michaeljordanjr; 10-10-2009, 10:04 PM.Comment

Re: Any Former 2K10'ers Who Made The Switch To Live 10?
I'm a 2ker that went to Live but then returned to 2k again. I even wrote my impression of Live a few days ago about how great the gameplay is. However, after really taking a closer look at Live, the game felt incomplete. To me player models are so important especially my favorite players and Live fell in that sense. As great as the gameplay, passing and spacing is I just couldn't believe how bad the models of Gallinari, Milicic, Chandler, Delfino were.
As many have said here that Live plays better out of the box that is correct. But slider tweaking to 2k and is by far the superior and realistic game. I felt that Live was getting to jumpy and animated for me for an nba simulation game. Also 2k's image metrics adds so much to the authenticity of the game is just incredible. 2k10 is just an elegant and subtle game of basketball combine with finesse and power that is what I was looking for in gameplay.
Of course I have the urge to go back and play live but the game is not convincing enough when the models are 60% horrible. Here are some examples of what I'm talking about models in 2k10 looking incredible. Hopefully this helps anybody that expects a lot from the design department!Last edited by Arod2k9; 04-21-2010, 07:55 PM.Comment

Well my phone has a large resolution what do you want me to do! Smart boy this was for suggestions on how great the graphics are in the game. I took the pics with the right orientation, but when I put them in this website it appears like that. I put my time to write a very good post that might help someone decide which game to get since both are great games. If it doesn't appeal to you then do me a favor and ignore my post.Comment

Re: Any Former 2K10'ers Who Made The Switch To Live 10?
I bought live over 2k this year and I Have been enjoying it overall but I have decided to switch back to 2k after a week long rental. There are things that LIve does that are amazing but it just began to feel repetetive and I miss one really important element that 2k just kills Live with. The fast break. It just doesn't seem to work in Live or is just poorly represented. In 2k10 I can occasionally get a steal and take off down court with Lebron and Mo on a 2 on 1 fast break and pass back and forth and finish off with an amazing slam that looks awesome! In live, everytime I get in the same situation it appears that the CPU controlled team gets down court super fast and Lebron and Mo are stuck in quicksand! No flash or dazzle....you have to run your normal offennse instead.
Now I know that this is a small part of the game....but to me having a few fast breaks per game is pretty important and when they come.....they can change the momentum big time. 2k just nails this.
Now to give Live it's props, it kills 2k in the defensive post department as it has never felt so rewarding to get my big guy to body up on player as they drive to the hoop. Contact redirects shots, forces bad shots and I even get blocks. Rebounds feel more like I am in control too. LIve captures this great whereas 2k10 seems to have missed this aspect almost completely. Points in the paint for the CPU team are too easy and trying to defend them can feel like an exercise in frustration.
Finally, the player models seem off somehow in Live. As the Cavs, coming downcourt in the default camera view, once everyone got in the paint and shifting around, I lost Lebron. I mean I couldn't tell the difference easily between him and Mo and Booby. From a distance their body styles and posture looked so similar. In 2k I could always tell who was who even from a distance....something I just take for granted and felt empty in Live for me. Up close I could tell them but the from a distance they began to look too similar.
Now what to do with my copy of live? Hmm.......Comment

Re: Any Former 2K10'ers Who Made The Switch To Live 10?
I too bought Live and and a few days ago I ended up selling it. I haven't bought 2K10 yet but will eventually (this week). I am not a fanboy of either company. Been playing EA basketball games since Bulls vs. Blazers. Loved NBA Showdown. I bought my first live in 95 (NBA Live 95) and put the most hours into that. From there I continued to buy NBA Live games up until 2005, the one with Carmelo on the cover. My friend had NBA Live 06 for the 360 and I hated it so I went with 2K and fell in love eversince especially 2K7 & 2K8.
NBA 2K9 on the other hand made me lose alot of interest. I was turned off by the sliding, herky jerk movements, and again sliding. After reading impressions and threads on OS with people saying 2K10 is like 2K9 and people making threads about Live with titles like "The Best Sports Game Of The year" I decided to go with Live even before playing the 2K10 demo. I couldn't get the 2K10 demo because at the time I was a silver member on XBOX Live and you had to be gold to download the demo.
When I bought NBA Live I liked it. The gameplay was smooth with realistic game stats but the animations was not really great. Player models were too glossy (adjusting your TV brightness & contrast can help but imo not by much.) There were too much stealing when driving it in, post ups was next to impossible and if you hold the ball for too long it will get poked out. Also the rebounding feels scripted with players gliding all over the place. One thing I hated was the fadeaway three pointers that always goes in. Tomba made a great find and for anyone who buys this game I suggest you go read his thread about adjusting players agility. I tried that and it made a hell of a difference and the jumpshots, rebounding, and player movements overall felt and looks better.
A few days ago I finally D/L the 2K10 since it wasn't just restricted to gold members and more. I loved the gameplay. Even though it was slower it just feels more authenic to me. Sorry EA but for this years BBall gaming 2K is still king.Comment

Re: Any Former 2K10'ers Who Made The Switch To Live 10?
Not sure if you are referring to any of my statements but I don't think one game is better than the other graphically....I mean...each one excels at different parts of the graphical treatment. My small nitpick on LIve graphically was that from a distance I could not tell which of my players was Lebron. I mean I didn't confuse him with "Z" or "Wild thing" but between Mo, Gibson, Shaq and Lebron it was hard to tell them apart when I could not see there faces or numbers. Their physiques are too similar or something. Saq should look much bigger relative to the others. I was only saying that in 2k series I could always tell where Lebron was as he has a clearly different build than Mo or Gibson and Shaq appears to be closer to scale compared to the others.
JUst a thought but in most of their sports titles EA tend to dumb down the details of the players when the camera pulls out far enough to warrant it. No need to have every pore on a guys face mapped perfect when viewing from broadcast camera. I have even seen them drop some polys too...so maybe from further away their body types default to something more generic? I don't know. Maybe I'm the only one that has experienced this.
Suffice it to say.....in real life....you would be seriously crippled if you had a hard time telling your own players from each other!Comment

Re: Any Former 2K10'ers Who Made The Switch To Live 10?
To those of you who says animations and graphics shouldn't make a difference because all that matters is gameplay. I disagree, in NBA Live 10's case it is. IMO it is tough to look past the glossy player models (this can be adjusted but player models still looks like plastic but just less glossy.) Also players like Brandon Roy looks nothing like they do in real life. I think players in 2K9 looks more like their real life counterparts than the players in Live 10.
Many will disagree with me about Live 10's graphics and will dispute that is great but in my eyes it isn't. This year graphics plays a big difference and this is coming from a guy who prefers gameplay over graphics.Comment
