I downloaded the Live 10 demo the first day it came out and I was absolutely amazed. I have never spent so much time playing a demo in my life. The entire atmoshpere in Live made it addictive and it just seemed like I was ready for a change. 2K has been awesome for me but change can always be a good thing. I always know what I'm getting with 2K but Live simply has a fun factor this year that I haven't felt with a sports game since I was a young kid.
I was already leaning towards buying Live because I wanted a new experience, and then the lack of a 2k10 demo for PS3 just put it over the top. I was trying to find every reason not to buy Live but I just couldn't hold back. There was an element of fun that sucked me in.
I bought Live on Tuesday and after playing most of the day I found myself missing a lot of the things that I love about 2K. I missed having complete control over what type of shot I'm going to take, especially when I drive to the basket. I was also getting tired of the in-air collisions every time I drove to the hoop. The lack of animations, especially when penetrating is holding it back. Live 10 is awesome but these next couple of years are going to be where they really make positive gameplay strides. The level of defensive control in 2K is another thing I missed.
I started to realize that I was already missing 2K. I hadn't played 2K9 since the day the Live demo was released. Its almost as if taking a break and playing a new game made me appreciate all of the things I love about the 2K series.
I considered trading Live in and buying 2K10 but I couldn't bring myself to do it. Yesterday I went out and flat out bought 2K10. I am absolutely loving it so far. I already worked on a set of my own Superstar sliders that has been great so far. At the same time, I just can't trade in Live because it is insanely fun. I decided that my main franchise will be in 2K10, but I will play Live for the Dynamic Season as well as the FIBA tournament. One thing I always fail to do in video games is play with a wide variety of teams. I tend to exclusively play with the Celtics every year. lol I think its been 7 or 8 years since I even played with other teams. The great thing about Live is that I'm literally going to enjoy playing with every team this year. At some point I will probably find a team in the Western Conference that I like playing with(I'm a Celtics fan), and try to win it all.
At the end of the day I never thought I would buy two games of the same sport like this, but I truly find great value in both Live and 2K. Once the 2nd Madden patch comes out my sports gaming will be set for next several months. Between Madden, NHL 10, Fight Night, and both NBA games, I feel like a kid again. I haven't had this many sports games to play at the same time in years. Not to mention that I played The Show nonstop all summer.
