I think Companies can save money by stop having coverboys to hock their product? I don't play the box, I play the game.Thoughts?

It mustn't be too much money, though, or at least not to the point it would affect game development. After all, it's just one picture, and maybe some ads.

I don't really care about it. NBA Starting Five 2005 had no cover boy, but was a good game and ahead of its time. In addition, it seems like cover boys don't always do the motion capture anymore or only a small portion of it, (at least on the NBA 2K series). So it's just a popular face on the cover.

Id be willing to bet that it helps sales more then it hurts budget...especially with players like Kobe Bryant who is a huge fan favorite...or in Lives case Dwight Howards who is coming off a "hot" year.....its really no different than any other athlete endorsing something...

a cool looking graphic art would be just as good, might cost the same amount of $$ for I know.
          Gaming hard since 1988

I have won like 25 Super Bowls in Madden so I am kinda a big deal.

I actually really don't care who's on the cover. One thing I've really hated about Madden is they seem to have the cover athlete be a precursor as to how they've placed a certain emphasis on certain aspect of the gameplay. This year it's all about the D when we have Ray Lewis, etc.. Why not have the game just be even more authentic to the sport across the board? Just put the team logo of the winner's of the last championship and let them be the cover.....

A great product sells itself, no "back of the box" features required! (See Fifa...)

To us, it probably doesn't matter.

To John Q. Public, it might matter. "Oh hey, Kobe's on this box. I looove Kobe, I have to buy it."

Exactly. For me, it doesn't matter one iota who is on the cover of the box. If a Kansas Jayhawks player is on the cover of a really good college baskeball game, I'll buy it (I'll probably rip out the cover, though ). If Zack Greinke is on the cover of a really crappy baseball game, I'm not going to buy it.

But to the average consumer the coverboy might be a make-or-break factor in deciding between NBA Live or NBA 2K.
