Live 10 vs. 2K10 for the Offline Gamer

If you are strictly and Offline Gamer, what game, NBA Live 10 or NBA 2K10, would you run with?

I think each offers something satfisfying. Live's Dynamic Season is a cool concept. I really like the ability to go back and influence real-world results by re-playing games. Unfortunately, the commentary in Live really shows its warts in this mode. The commentary is no different than any other mode. No immersion at all.

I know DNA gets a bad rap from people (and there is justification to this to an extent), but I like how the game incorporates how players are playing irl into the video game. I just would like to see more user control; i.e. if someone is on a cold streak, give me the ability to break him out of it. I don't like missing shots just b/c the DNA says he's on a cold streak.

That's where 2K shines. Play an NBA Today game (you can play the games scheduled for the day you turn the game on) and you'll get fresh, dynamic commentary. This commentary will also carry over into Association Mode.

Speaking of which, I know there are issues with it, but I have always liked the idea behind Player Roles and Team Chemistry. These are issues that real NBA teams have to deal with, and I think it's handled well in 2K.

Live's Dynasty Mode is bascially just playing through an NBA calendar season. There's no in-game injuries (a real killer), no Player Roles and no Team Chemistry. You can adjust Player Rotation, but that has no affect on how the guys on your team play. I do like the 3-tier system of choosing the direction of your Dynasty, although I think some of the goals associated with the direction aren't that realistic.

Another edge 2K has is in-game saves. I love Live 10, it provides very realistic stats played at 12-minute quarters. The only problem with that is that I don't always have an hour-plus to play a game. With 2K, it's nice to have the option to save if needed and pick the game back up later. Oh, and customizing season length is another big bonus. EA needs to add this to NBA and its NHL series for gamers that don't want to play 100-plus games (playoffs) for just one season.

Well, I think I just answered my own question, lol.

NBA 2k10 has in game save
    Gaming hard since 1988

I have won like 25 Super Bowls in Madden so I am kinda a big deal.

Stl, yeah, that's a huge selling point for me. I've blogged about my prior issues with 2K10 on my 360, but I'm determined to give it another go. I found a coupon for Best Buy through my Reward Zone Membership, and have some money on a gift card, so I'm going to try out a new copy and (fingers crossed) that will work just fine on my 360.

As I said, I like Live 10 a lot, but it's definitely missing a lot in terms of immersion with its game modes.

OK, so after attending an OKC Thunder game last weekend (lost to Portland in a good back and forth game. I did catch a free T-shirt, though and Durant and B. Roy were a treat to see in person), I decided to try and start up an NBA Live Dynasty with the Thunder ...

I didn't get very far. The player rotations are WAY out of whack. Every team aside from a couple are messed up. I controlled all 30 teams and tried to fix things but it doesn't matter much as after the game's first whistle, you'll see a bunch of subs and the rotations are all jacked.

Deron Williams and Chauncey Billups playing Shooting Guard. Marcus Camby playing SF and the topper, Hilton Armstrong starting at Shooting Guard for Houston, lol.

I like Live a lot, but all of these issues are really pushing me to go get 2K just so I can play a game with some depth. I'll still run Dynamic Season and Play Now with Live, but am going to jump on 2K10 soon to get an Association going.

really like the options 2k gives you to tailor your association experience towards your own needs. stuff like editing draft classes, hiring your staff, including team/player options, really gives you alot to work with. I haven't really touched My Player or NBA Today.

i still play dynamic season every now and then, as i favor Live's movement/shooting/play-calling. Also like the DNA aspect. Dynasty though I could never stick with. Just don't like how rotations are handled, don't like simulated game stats, never figured out how their team chemistry component worked, can't edit draft classes, etc.

I play exclusively offline except for 2 matches with an OS member, and 2K is just too smooth. It has its flaws, but I take pride in knowing that my offline Edit Player rosters are better than the 2K Insider's. And The Association still kills.

I'm an offline only nba player and I like Live but love 2k10. Live still has a fair way to go before it can compete and still has a bunch of bugs and quirks that need fixing before it can challenge the 2k series imo.

I do prefer the playbooks and how plays are run in Live way more than 2k10 though.

2K is chock full of bugs....IMO NBA Live 10 surpassed NBA 2K10 in the gameplay department. There is no strategy needed to play 2K10. NBA Live 09 and 10, you must call plays in order to succeed.

Live online is great imo....(me being 6-0 is probably a big part of it lol). But as far as offline, which I play the majority of the time its not even close..for me at least....I love the variation of what can happen from game to game in 2k..along with the AI....It really keeps me interested...

First of all i ONLY play offline. I've tried online a couple times but the lag was too much to handle. I've been playing 2k10 almost everyday since it came out and i've finally decided to sell it. The game is just TOO easy.. i play on hall of fame with sliders but it really doesn't help much. The pick and roll works like 90% of the time which results in my big man just rolling to the basket for an easy dunk. I can iso my PG and dribble past my man for an easy layup without anyone coming over to help. I tried to stick with it anyway cause i loved the animations and graphics of 2k but enough was enough. I then decided to pick up NBA live 10 to give it a try and i must say the gameplay is great. If you can get past the graphics i think it's a really really fun game.

Iminurbase mentioned the other day that he was going to look into the rotation/lineup/substitution issue in Live's Dynasty Mode. If they get that cleared up, I'll have no problems playing Live 10 for Dynasty, as the gameplay to me is smoother than 2K.

on one hand i love live's gameplay the way i have it edited on my roster, 2k's gameplay frustrates me.

then we get to arena music and franchise options then i'm in love with 2k and its options and live bores me...

For strictly off line, Id have to say 2k.

There are some DNA hiccups that rear their ugly head from time to time, when the CPU is l;eft to their own devices..like bigs shooting 20 footers, because the DNA % says it is time for them to shoot that shot now.

Well, I think I found a workable solution for me.

I'm going to play Live 10 when I want to just have fun and play a Play Now (or Playoff Mode) game.

If I want Franchise/Association, I'm going to run with 2K8 with updated rosters. I may get 2K10 when I get a PS3 but for now, this is the route I'm going.
