Better sim ball: 2k or Live?

I've been a 2k player for the last few years after having been a live player since Live 95. I recently made the switch from 360 to ps3 and after watching the playoffs I have gotten the NBA bug again. My question then is this, which game is a better on court sim, Live or 2k? I haven't played Live, only 2k, so I was wanting the opinion of those who have played both.

I don't really care about all of the Association stuff, I know that 2k's is deeper than Live's. I just wanna know which of these is a more realistic game experience if I want to just play an exhibition game or start a season and play every game. Commentary isn't even at the top of my list, I mainly care just about how it plays on the court.

    Thanks in advance!

Re: Better sim ball: 2k or Live?

Unfortunately, this thread might be locked. It seems we're not allowed to talk about the two games in relation to each other.

But I love these types of questions/threads, because I'm a fan of both games. To answer your question: it depends on what you value.

Live is more sim in the sense that there are far fewer dunks, better FG% out of the box, and it forces you to actually shoot jump shots.

In 2k, even on the hardest difficulty, unless you tweak the sliders pretty extensively, I find that there is literally no reason to ever shoot a jump shot. Basically, in 2k you have to choose to play "sim" whereas with Live, to an extent, forces you to play sim. I feel like Live rewards you for taking the open jumper, and 2k punishes you.

In 2k, it's just too easy to either penetrate and dunk, or throw heavily contested passes into the paint.

It's also much harder to create spacing to even get a decent perimeter look in 2k.

That said, 2k is more sim when it comes to the post-game. Live 2010's post game is just awful. Shaq and Dirk are the same player in Live. Also, blocking shots is more realistic in 2k. Haha, some of the blocks in Live will make you laugh, guys just get swatted at strange angles/times.

Also, 2k is more sim if you prefer to score more than 2 fast break points per game. Live plays a great half-court game this year (except for the post-game).

I'll stop rambling, I have a more succinct, list-based post here on the two games:

I've been trying to get use to 2k, but the isomotion is so unresponsive. That and the sliding kills me. On the other hand the post game and limited animations in live is killing me too. I'm torn.

Style, you summed up 2010 bball games in two lines

You'd think both series would be able to recognize their weaknesses and implement systems closer to what the competition has.

The frustrating part for us is... we know these things are possible to program- between the two games A LOT is done right.

I was thinking if 2k wanted the best of both worlds, they could use the right stick for isomotion. For isomotion press L2 or LT, and while it's press you can use the right stick for your isomotion. Once it is released, it goes back to the shot stick. Just my two cents.

Honestly, both games are lacking vs the CPU

In 2k the CPU doesnt play sim basketball, Bigs and guard PGs and SG on the perimeter with no consequences, and the CPU cheats you, to score.

In NBA Live, the game can be a slave to the DNA% and do some things during games that do not make sense, given the situation.
