Funny that some would say 2k needs to step up as their game was clearly a better product on next gen. If so EA has to step up tenfold.

For us gamers, the best outcome would be both games equally very good.

I'm a 2k homer, but Live/Elite has never cut it for me. I've even given it chances when 2k has really, really sucked, and it just isn't good. The physics and animations have always been off. They've been adding great stuff like more realistic playbooks over the year, but the gameplay has been so mediocre that those changes are easily overlooked.

I'm really pumped about Wang (pause) re-joining the 2k group. Sounds like they're truly trying to create a sim basketball experience over there, even making teams from the 80s and 90s play like they did back in the day. The less I hear about modes like All-Star Weekend, dunk contests, three point shootouts, and all of the goofy stuff, the better.

Live has been playing catch-up for years and years. Why else do you think they changed their name?

Ha, don't get me wrong - I'm not criticizing you, I'm just saying that people say this every year. Especially the "Should be a great year for Basketball games" part.

NBA 2k11. Wang is back and everyone I talk to is sick and tired of live and think the new name change is a joke and will fail miserably. I haven't liked live over 2k since 2005.

I can't believe anyone in their right mind would prefer 2k over NBA "Elite." The thing that amazes me is people actually believe those who play Elite are idiots who can't judge the better game.

I'd like to know how many people have spent countless hours with both games and can make a true comparison. I personally have and it's not even close.

I admit that there are different types of gamers, and I agree that "Elite's" offline play is probably really weak. So, if you are playing franchise, that's one thing.

But in terms of game play, it's not even close. 2k has beautiful graphics, but there's a lot missing. It's almost like the game is in slow motion or something. I can't really explain it, but it just isn't like real basketball. In the moment, like if someone drives and they get a contact animation and they score... that part is like real basketball, or when someone goes up to grab a rebound, that's like real basketball, but as a whole it's just not. Does that make sense? It's like it's a bunch of 'real basketball' animations loosely tied together and not only does that make for poor competitive online play but it also makes the game seem lifeless.

We know Elite has mediocre graphics. We know it has some WTF moments (but so does 2k...), but I just have a hard time understanding why someone would prefer 2k over Elite when Elite gives you so much more control over everything during game play.

Well seeing that 2k has been the better game for at least the last 5 years, I see this year being no different.

I like simulation and physics. I dont like fluff. 2K looks way superior but its style over substance.

Elite is doing something never before done in basketball games. You get to control your shot, you control EVERYTHING. How is that not appealing to a sim-core gamer?

I'll play 2K for the Jordan challenges but if Im competing online Im playing Elite. With 1:1 shooting physics, there are no cheesers exploiting a 100% FG spot on the court.

Add to all that AI recorded moves. AI performing like the real stars.

I haven't played either so I don't know which is better! Lol. Don't care as long as one is good enough to satisfy my hoops fix. I'll try both demos. One yr I bought "In The Zone", "Live," & "Shootout!" Now I try to stick with 1 game. I've enjoyed all brands though. 2k11 has really grabbed me with their trailer & I've preferred it the last few yrs but if Elite is hot I'm getting it! I love having options!!
