Re: Canned Animations Is NEVER better then RTP
The problem is that not every animation in a sports game is a canned one. The removal of canned 2-player animations shouldn't mean that every animation in the game looks dated. Jumpshots, the flight of jumpers, net and rim physics all look poor in the two Elite vids and that has nothing to do with canned animations vs RTP.
The dribbling animations look very smooth which almost makes everything else stand out even more - in a bad way.
Until RTP includes great animations and becomes the standard for sports video games the tried & true method of a good balance of controls and canned animations is going to be the gold standard. Every game struggles with this though. To me, 2K10 was the opposite of Elite 11. The game had the worst control of any sports game I've played in the last decade, I owned for less than two weeks and sold it because the controls were unbearable to me. That's one end of the spectrum, Elite 11 is going to be the other. Without that balance it's very hard as a gamer to get excited and stay excited for a game. Granted that controls are more important than animations to me the animations still need to be at an acceptable level.
Elite will not sell well until the animations are improved. If the process does take a few years like it supposedly did with NHL and FIFA then we'll just have to wait and see. But with 2K supposedly bringing a good level of controls back to their game I don't see why many gamers are going to chose Elite.
Good/above average controls and amazing visuals VS amazing controls and horrible visuals. It just doesn't add up in Elite's favor no matter how you slice it. I hope that RTP is the truth and that with a few years of development it will change sports games forever. But until it offers a more well-rounded user experience I don't know if I can justify spending the coin on it.Comment

Re: Canned Animations Is NEVER better then RTP
Yep great post Ehh, the devs definitely need to clean up a lot of the animations before this series is going to get any major mainstream success.
As of right now this series is probably going to be more niche game then anything else. I just hope the suits upstairs are aware of that and don't try and change the direction AGAIN...Comment

Re: Canned Animations Is NEVER better then RTP
Brand new broadcast team this year, so it can be expected that commentary will sound worse than usual these people who do commentating on the daily bases aren't reading a script as they do when doing video game commentating and they aren't used to commentating a video game so its natural that it will sound lackluster and unpolished.Comment

Re: Canned Animations Are NEVER better then RTP
NEVER NEVER NEVER EVER NEVER.
now that doesn't mean the little animations that are in ELITE dont need work. they do. but that doesn't mean you should be asking for your old canned animations to be placed back in with more added like 2k.
no no no no.
VISUALLY (us watching these videos) of course it will LOOK better if all you see were great canned animations vs RTP. why? because you are not controlling the game. so when something happens on video. you THINK thats what the user wanted to happen. if the animations are smooth enough. you would not be able to tell otherwise unless the USER said so.
THis is why judging ELITE 11 videos is ignorant(to not know). and i'm not using the word ignorant to sound harsh. there's a reason they keep saying "Just play the demo", just play the demo..you'll see. there's a reason that some of the guys from the other event playing 5 vs 5 admitted its funner to play then it was to watch their own vids. and they didn't even know how to use the controls yet.
i repeate YOU CANT JUDGE A GAME BASED ON RTP IN ITS FIRST YEAR ON VIDEOS. that would be a backwards approach to review such a game.
now 2k11. view the videos. more canned animations. they allow you to break out of a lot more they say. thats great. but its still tons and tons and tons of canned animations. so you will never ever know if the the person on the sticks even made that move. or was it a canned animation. they had to deal with while playing.
so i' will do EA a favor and say it. DO NOT MAKE A JUDGEMENT UNTIL THE DEMO. and even then know this is year 1 of this. go back to nhl and remember what happened with that. if they are on to something but need more time for more tweeks. give them that if that means Elite12 or 13 will end up being the best hoop game ever. cause thats what nhl is now so the fans say. if i told you i've been messing you around for 6 years now or so. then i switch it up and use tactics i've used to resurrect another game that is now a hit 3 years later. would you wait on me, or would you say i cant take it turn it off. no RTP. go back to canned animations just add more? thats called a bandaid vs having surgery. surgery sucks. usually people come out moving slower then they did before they went in. my mom had knee surgery years ago. her knees were that bad. the thing is, if you asked her during the first few weeks if she would rather go back to just the constant knee pain when walking. she would've said YES take me back. because it was so hard to get from surgery, post surgery to where she is now. not perfect but 10 times better then where she was PRe surgery. thats what this is folks.
are you willing to wait or are you just throwin in the towel and saying i cant take it. just change it back and add more animations?
Its clear your saying this year the game may suck but the future is bright, great now if the "other" game which clearly looks too be the better game this year in almost every way possible, would you buy the "BETTER" game this year and next year when Elite12 or 13 become the "best game ever" jump on the series then.
Why limit yourself when there are better options out thereComment

Im a production art major in game design, and the OP has NO CLUE what they are TALKING ABOUT. NONE, esp not from a outside consumer standpoint.Last edited by noshun; 09-03-2010, 01:00 AM.NBA Live is the epitome of Cancel Culture..
