Because it's not that great of a game. And they don't add anything new, it's basically a roster update and a new cover.

just a FYI, here is whats new:

Xbox Live: NBA Inside Drive 2004 will debut a new online basketball universe for the true hoops fan. NBA Inside Drive 2004 will provide head-to-head play, roster updates, and player rating updates. Multiple leader boards will let gamers with different levels of experience compete online, and a new ranking system will give players more ways to track their dominance.

    Revamped A.I.

Offensive gameplay: NBA Inside Drive 2004 will offer hoopsters more responsive "juke" controls. for jaw-dropping one-on-one isolation moves. For gamers who prefer more of a team effort, NBA Inside Drive 2004 features an improved passing scheme, to let them control the pace of the game and create their own "give and gos."
Defensive adjustments: The defense will be bolstered by revolutionary defensive controls that deliver a new level of intensity to stealing and blocking and allow gamers to play their own style of hoops.

    A new dynasty mode.

and of course the roster updates you mentioned

Wow, 2 people coming out of the woodworks just waiting to bash ID 2003. How original. Seriously, if you don't have any insight to offer other than your own opinions about the quality of the game (which has NOTHING to do with the hype this game lacks), you shouldn't post, IMHO.

There are people, such as myself, who love ID 2003, but aren't hyped up for ID 2004. It obviously has NOTHING to do with the quality of the game, so that should disprove your statements.

My opinion is that ID 2004 doesn't have much info out about what's new, not to mention the fact that there's not much in terms of innovation in the game. It's a solid game already, they're improving upon it, and that's all that matters. I can wait patiently until November for its release. I am, however, anticipating ESPN NBA Basketball, and Live 2004, just because I'm more curious whether these two games actually have what I'm actually looking for this time. I don't think they'll provide a better on-court experience than ID 2004, but I'm hoping they will be at least as good. Have to say, Live 2004 looks much improved, and possibly may be at most, only a few steps away from capturing ID 2003's gameplay, if not matching it. Can't say the same for ESPN Basketball because I haven't seen anything about the game that makes me think it has really improved gameplay-wise. Admittedly, there's just not much to see until the games are out.

Based on last year's versions: not everyone enjoyed Live and 2k more. Hell, I sure didn't. I thought they were poor sims, while ID 2003 pretty much nailed it as far as I'm concerned. This year may or may not be a different story. I think Live 2004 will be a good rival, at least.

No it couldn't. For one, they don't have anything outside of exhibition and franchise. And as much as you hate to admit it, they have bad graphics. Sure, some people might give it some time but they wouldn't be able to double or triple their sales until they actually change the game. Inside drive isn't a horrible game like live but it's not the best game ever and even if it was it couldn't rely on gameplay alone to save it.

I actually asked HV why they iddnt advertise more and hyupe there game, and I never got a straight answer. I think its kind asad, cause with some hard core advertising campaigns, I htink ID could double or tripple there fan base

If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)
