As for how can I think game reviewers don't know anything about basketball, have you even LOOKED at how they even play the game in their vids? Or have you even bothered to READ their damn reviews? Because I can guarantee you AI is hardly part of the game critique, unless it's REALLY bad. By the way, EGM even mentioned the poor AI, but only a passing statement and nothing more. Same with Gamespot. And OXM (Official Xbox Magazine) rated Live 2004 a bit higher than ESPN NBA Basketball.

You're right about one thing: There's no way I can KNOW for sure, but I sure as hell SUSPECT that it is the case, and I've given my reasons to back that up. By the way, Steve also said he was enjoying Live 2004 more than NBA 2k4, so what does that tell you?

Let me ask you again: HAVE you played NBA 2k4? hell, maybe you're just really slow or maybe you just really want to believe Visual Concepts makes great basketball games so it takes you so long to realize the truth. Since it took you so long to realize NBA 2k3's flaws until now, you may enjoy the game, but the flaws are very evident right from when you start the game.

Re: Play of the day ID 2004 vid at IGN.

I have to agree with pretty much everything Neo has just said. To go a step further, I'll even admit that I do give Sega the benefit of the doubt and I don't give EA or MS's sport's games that same benefit. The reason I like when I'm able to support Sega is because I believe that EA needs the competition or they wouldn't be improving their games the way they have over the past year.

That said, I can't understand the unanimous positive reviews that ESPN Basketball is getting without explaining it by the fact that ESPN isn't for the hardcore Basketball fan who wants a realistically playing game. No matter how I try to positivly look at ESPN Basketball, the flaws are overwhelmingly glaring. I didn't want to have to admit this but it's not even close this year between EA and Sega and EA beats them easily in terms of being able to recreate a realistically playing Basketball sim.

I think the bottom line is that most reviewers still approach rating their sports games from the old-school approach where A.I. wasn't even a factor. A.I. really didn't start meaning anything in sports games untill this gen of consoles however the reviewers still don't get that. Their focus is still on whether or not the game has all the shoe licenses and if the player tatoos are accurate.

In conclusion, I would not go as far to say that people who prefer ESPN Basketball don't know anything about real Basketball. I believe it's possible that a person isn't as concerned about realism in terms of A.I. and Tendancies as opposed to atmosphere and presentation in their video games even if they understand the game. I have friends that have played organized Basketball that still like the more arcady video games that have the better looking dunks. The point is that if you want a realistic playing Basketball game, don't expect reviews from the general media to help you out. If you don't trust what I'm saying, go ahead and read all the past reviews over the past 2 years for the ESPN/2k series, Inside Drive series, and NBA Live series. You'll hardly ever hear them talking about A.I. After reading the entire 3 page IGN review, they spent more time talking about Kidd blowing kisses on his free throws and the 24/7 mode rather than talking about gameplay. In fact, the most they ever say about A.I. is a general summary of whether it's good or not and usually each site has a different opinion about that because most of them gauge that based on how quickly the defense reacts to block your shots or how quickly they recognize to shoot when they're open. They don't factor in the flow of the game, tendancies, or teams playing to their strengths.

Many of you forget that ID was liked by many sites last year but took a big hit for not having on-line play. So you need to adjust the scores acordingly. In my opinion, ID is without a doubt the best of the big three 2 years running now. I mainly focus on 2 player play however. I have tried Live 2004 this year, and I am impressed by some of the things they are trying to do. ID could take some of the animations and control features from live, presentation and dynasty from ESPN, to improve on for 2005. However I don't want a major change because the game was great the way it was and I can't wait for online play.

Honestly, if ID is just slightly improved in the areas of animations, which it sounds it is. (tip rebounding, diving after loose balls, etc...

Decrease the effectiveness and frequency of the alleyoop. I hope they make it that you have to call for the alleyoop, the auto leads to unwanted alleyoop plays.

Then with this game going on-line and on XSN more than warrants the purchse for me.

ID rules in one key area for me... 2 player. It is by far the best 2 player version in my opinion. I can't wait to play this game on-line. Me and my old roomates played this game for an entire year and only stopped because I moved out on my own. We are all waiting for ID online so we can have battles against each other again.

I really hope people from OS do create a league on XSN. It would really be a blast and would be the first time that a lot of poeple from the OS site tested out XSN.

In the online forum, I tried to get people to agree to a league, but only got 1 response . hehe. Maybe in here we can get some feedback going, I think a huge OS league would be the [censored you naughty boy]!
