There's a reason for that. Reviewers like Game Informer's just do not write good sports game reviews. They hated on ID 2004, which I found to be pretty funny considering they claimed the players would just stand around in the game. My question is: what game were they playing? The AI moves a lot in this game and when there is some standing around it's either due to low stamina or just a lot of bad players on the court, which makes sense. Hell, they don't even mention squat about real playsets or anything. I don't see why you trust reviews so much. Most game review sites and mags have to play through 100's of games every month, they're not going to give much time to a game that isn't visually appealing and may at first seem like the same game. If you didn't know already, reviewers do cheat from time to time when they write their reviews. Sometimes they'll just pick up a game for 10 minutes, look at the game, see nothing that seems new to them and they rush to judgement. Hell, even Gamespot.com got caught at this. They're guilty of it, it's just rare that they ever get caught, IMHO.

With the inclusion of a freestyle effectiveness slider this year, you're still going to make that claim?

Hey, I don't fault you though. I'm just no longer enjoy the inability to actually control my player's dribble.

Seriously. ID was the only Basketball game that instituted player tendancies. No review even mentions that. It was the only game before this year's Live (and ID 2003 still does this better than this year's Live) that had true Team Tendancies and play sets. It's the only game that uses screens away from the ball and has a proper execution of motion offenses or any type of offense that uses a lot of off-the-ball player movment. It's the only BBall game where the computer is smart enough to cut through an open lane when their team-mate is being double teamed.

Do those things matter? Yea, it does if you want realistic playing BBall. ESPN has the nicely replicated free throw routines and it's kind of cool seeing our mascot on the side lines and the ESPN presentation is nice however when I see non-dunkers run down the lane and tomohawk the ball on my big men or Mutombo come down the court on a fast break and pull up for the mid range jumper and then the next time he does a cross over and then takes the ball to the rack and dunk like a guard.....well that's not realistic. Neither is 4 play sets. Neither is horrible A.I. that won't even try to tie the game when they are down by 3 with 5 seconds left. Neither is the horrible spacing that makes you pull your hair out.

Most guys here won't get the significance of what you just said...seems the ESPN guys aimed at the kids this year.

I haven't picked up this year's copy yet, but IMO last year's Inside Drive was the best sim-play-realism basketball game ever made.
