Player lock

I couldn't find this anywhere with the search but does anyone know if this is any good. I remember in ID 03 it worked a bit. (Cutting to the hoop with Iverson and CPU team-mates would pass without me calling for it).

How's it in 04? Do they pass without you calling for it? Do they take shots on their own? Any insight would be great.

    Thanks

    Re: Player lock

Set " Player Switching " to manual in the " Controller Settings "! Your teammates will now shoot the ball if they are open, and will pass the ball to you if you are open, or you can call for the ball with whomever you're controlling, or take control of any teammate on/off the ball on offense.

The other setting is " position lock ", which of course allows you to only control one position.

Both of these are set in the Controller Settings option. Start a single/season game, assign your controller home/away then press Y to enter the Controller Settings .

But still, Is the player lock better ? Last year I played with the Raptors and locked on Vince Carter, but I tried playing with the Sixers and locking on Eric Snow and I averaged 21 points a game with him...wayy to high.

I want CPU teammates to think on their own.

Then setting Player Switching to manual is what you want. I play the game this way all the time, and get very realistic scoring from my stars, very realistic FG% also. This setting also makes running the team plays a lot better IMHO! When calling a play you now can see who goes where, and how the play works.

With this setting, an AI teammmate on the front end of a fastbreak will finish, or attempt to finish without you taking control of him. The same is true with passing the ball into the post. AI teammates will think for themselves, try dribble moves, pump fakes, and will pass the ball around trying to find the open man.

Manual Player Switching just draws me into the game a lot more than controling every single aspect of the offense, or every single aspect of one player positon [Player Lock]. It's also the only way you can observe how the AI in the game really works on offense. Whether a player likes to face up on offense, or play with his back to the basket. If you control every player that has the ball on offense, you never get too see how those individual player sliders on offense really work.

If you've never played it this way, then it might take a bit of getting use too. But I guarantee when you get comfortable with Manual Switching you will appreciate the game a lot more. Not just this game. I also play College Hoops this way, and it's just a more immersive experience for me!
