Having problems with backing down and in-the-post spin moves...

    ...can someone help?

First let me say I play on All-Star mode or whatever the top difficulty game mode is in ID2004 (I have all the NBA games [ID, ESPN NBA, LIVE, and ESPN CB] so I might be mistaken by calling the hardest difficulty level in ID, All-Star). And play with adjusted game-play sliders I have found from other ID players.

    Anyhow, back to my problem...

Last years while backing an oppenate down or playing in the post game was great, IMO.
If you had a quick player like T-Mac or Kobe or a solid post player like Duncan, KG, Shaq, etc. ... you could back them down outside the paint or back the opposing player into the post against a lower rated player (in each case), spin around that player and get open for a shot (if another player didn't come over to help out), or playing in the post, go up for a layup or dunk (if another player didn't come over to help out) ... in ID2004, if you try to do the same moves you can't ... the defender either slows you way, way down or you cannot drive by the defender and you are forced to take a jumper ... this is BS ... and NO!, I'm not double-teamed nor is another player coming over to help out to defend my player everytime I try to execute these moves.

Am I doing something wrong here??

Because in real-life, these players would have no problem spinning around an inferior defender while backing the respective defensive player down or playing in the post the majority of the time (granted if there was no double team or another player coming over to help defend once they spun around a defender).

And the problem that most upsets me is the CPU team is still effetive in the post with using the spin move like in last years version ... even if I have a player like Duncan guarding Ostertag.

Like I stated above ... am I doing some thing wrong here??
    Any suggestions would help.

I love ID2004, but these problems are really ticking me off.

Thanks for any replies or help...

I agree with what you are saying but i actually feel it's made the game better than last year not worse. Last year it was much to easy to simply dominate in the post ever single game and 40-50 point games but TD, KG etc were the norm. I actually prefer that it's difficult to score in the post now.

One thing you can do is to run playd where you ow post player catches a pass very close to the basket (the low post iso plays are good for this). I'm averaging 22 ppg with Zach Randolph in my dynasty so it's still more than possible to dominate. Hope that helps.

Not impossible to dominate in the post, but it does make you work harder to do so. You have to use more moves. You can't just hook shot your way to 50 points any more. Nor can you just drop step from a backdown and always get to the basket. This doesn't make the game worse, it makes it much better IMHO. You have to be abloe to take those open jumpers, face up in the post and spin towards the basket, etc. to open up your game in the post.

well yeah, you are doing something wrong. in 2004 you need to be closer to the paint in order to do your backdown move. when you`re farther away from the paint your backdown moves aren`t effective.

when you pass the ball to your post up man, dribble a little closer to the paint THEN proceed with your backdown post move. this will open up more options, like spin move, fade away, step back, etc..etc.. try this out, it should help quite a bit!

me personally, i like to feed the post man when he`s already in good position to backdown the defender. again, try this out sometime and good luck!
