Operation Sports and Xbox.com Inside Drive 2004 Article

Operation Sports and Xbox.com are working together to provide you with more sports gaming content. Our very own Shawn Drotar has posted his Inside Drive 2004 article at Xbox.com, make sure you check it out.

"As a long-time basketball aficionado, it’s impossible to not notice how much NBA Inside Drive feels like NBA basketball. The whip-smart A.I. rewards the gamer for intelligent play and strongly punishes the careless. The end result is a game that feels different and fresh every time you play, and for the hoops fan, what could be better?"

Excellent article. The last line about learning more about basketball is so true. Even as a long time watcher, player and lover of the game of basketball...I've learnt things from this game, play sets, subtle things.

I don't know about his comments about the crowd though...I know it's the xbox site, so I suppose he had to be nice, but the crowd he describes are very definitely NOT turning up to the games I'm playing....

One of the most overlooked parts of a sports game is its sound. Fortunately for us, the sound work involved in NBA Inside Drive is simply outstanding. The crowds cheer, boo, and otherwise act as you’d expect.

I guess he's not wrong, the crowd DOES cheer and boo as expected, but it's not resounding. Maybe the 5.1 they were touting so much refers to how many people were actually cheering.

Sound / Atmosphere is defintely the games weakness.

He described it as 'outstanding'...which I am surprised at. It's far from outstanding...in fact, it's the worsr use of 5:1 I have ever heard. The crowd rarely reacts, and even when it does, it's incredibly tame. It's far, far inferior to the crowd noise in LIVE and College Hoops...and most golf games have louder crowds also....

                      NOW THAT WAS FUNNY!
When they were talking about having 5:1 for Inside Drive, I thought it would be the same as the crowd in Fever, which was good. Of course I was very VERY wrong. I'll sing ID's praises like anyone else, but OUTSTANDING is not a word I would use to describe this crowd. I'm kinda use to the dead crowd but at least I can see them now.
