You guys did a great job, Beluba...sure there may be things that aren't perfect, but I'm a programmer (even a game or two for classes) and I know things are never perfect Thanks for the hard work, we all appreciate it. Though I wasn't appreciating it quite as much getting my *** kicked by you on Live with the bulls

Re: Operation Sports and Xbox.com Inside Drive 2004 Article

While I'm glad that Inside Drive is finally getting some props, as arguably one of the best basketball game that came out for the Xbox, this year. It's not without its share of faults. The way Mr Drotar is making this game out to be, you would think, he worked pr for Microsoft. Don't get me wrong I agree with mostly everything he had to say, but he neglected to write about the negative aspects of the game and embellish some parts of the game that had me shaking my head.

First and foremost, the positives, Inside Drive's gameplay is second to none, I mean it puts Live and ESPN to shame. I just love the way the game plays, you got picks, you got fast breaks, you got slam dunks, you got different shooting animations, you got team tendencies, player tendencies, you got fouls, pushing, loose ball fouls you name it. This game just does so many things right on the gameplay, that every other basketball developers, should model their game after Inside Drive, It's that good.

Dont get me started about the individual player sliders, I think every game should model their player rating after this game.

After I played Live , I thought it would be imperative, going forward that every basketball game, should institute a dunk and shoot button, it seemed ingenious, but guess what folks, Inside Drive does'nt need that, you see, because, the game never lets you second guess whether it should have been a dunk or a shot, they dont pull in the middle of a fast break to do a hook ala ESPN basketball.

It seems like the AI knows exactly where it is on the court,y ou will know what I am talking about the minute you try to save a ball from going out of bounds, simply magnificient. While the lay ups and dunks are not as smooth and flashy as NBA Live, they do the job and they do it well.

There is however a couple of small things, I will like to see fixed or added for next year's game, while there is a dunk range that can be modified. I have seen too many little guys dunking with authority in this, dudes like Rafer Alston and Allen Iverson should not be doing some of these dunks that they have in the game. I'm also not too fond of the dribble moves in the game, while they dont have to be as extravagant as the Isomotion or the free style, on LIve, but it would be nice to see an array of moves that guards can pull, as it is right, now they are just too plain.

While the gameplay, is to be commended, the graphics just plain suck to put it mildly I mean this is the Xbox right, you could tell this graphic engine had its origin
with the N64, NBA JAM anyone. This looks like a port of the old game sans Bill Walton and Kevin Harlan, who I thought were amazing back then, now we have Kevin Calabro, Marques whatever and Kenny Smith. This is where I disagree with Mr Drotar wholeheartedly, these are the worse commentators, I have ever heard. They do a good job with providing us with stats, that's not the problem, what I dont like is when they use word like Jimmy to describe a jumpshot, and their failed attempt to provide comic relief.
Their lines are not funny and are repetitive as hell, stick to the script guys no ad libbing, and If I hear Kenny Smith, comments at the foul line one more time, I'm going to gag. On the other hand Akemi Tekei does a wonderful job with the halftime update she's a keeper. One thing's for sure four voices during a game, is lot better than two or three for that matter.
Let me go back to the graphics for just a minute, the game just needs a facelift in my opinion, I mean are u serious, 95% of those guys in the game look nothing like their NBA counterpart. it just does not end with the graphics either, the game needs a personality, just like VC has ESPN, and EA well has EA, High Voltage needs something, Fox Sports anyone. I like the stats overlays however, they give you a lot of relevant game information, more so than EA and VC, it just needs a life to it. The Create a Player and Player Edit mode sucks, you can change a guy's number come on now.

In conclusion, give me Inside Drive's gameplay anyday, just sprinkle a little love to this old *** graphics engine, and pepper the presentation up a notch and you got yourself a dandy of a game, well for right it will do, now only if some one can come up with a game with ID's gameplay, ESPN's graphics, those player faces, tattoes are unbelievable, ESPN's presentation, Brent Musburger or Kevin Harlan and Bill Walton, Akemi Takei, Live's NBA Store, A NBA franchise as equivalent to College Hoops Legacy mode, its depth anyway and a Trophy room with championships trophies and retired jerseys, The NBDL, 10 day contracts, free agents, free agents,I will be allset. A man can dream cant he.

Hey, if your part of the team...thanks for three years of basketball that I have enjoyed more than any other basketball game. It's been a great series, enjoyed it a tonne since ID 2000 for the PC actually.

I hope you guys can pump up the atmosphere though...it's lacking big time.

The AI is great...by far the best ever in an NBA game.
