t it this way..the hard part is done, and thats getting the ai to respond like it is supposed to...espn & live both have gr8 arena sounds, but give me solid gameplay over any of that on anyday.

    I agree totally.

However, this game has had solid gameplay now for three years.

In that time...the crowd noise and atmosphere hasn't improved at all...

It's a real shame and pretty hard to understand. An X-Box exclusive game with basically no sounds / atmosphere / graphics... in it's third year.

agreed monkey, but what is even worse is that live and espn both twice the age of ID have had the atmoshpere and not the gameplay for twice as long, i too wish that they would get the atmosphere right...maybe next time around..i enjoy all 3 for different reasons but the king of bball this year is ID, now all they need is a college game

            Agreed.

It just seems strange though. Getting killer AI for basketball game is damm hard.

ID has managed to do this.

And yet, getting atmosphere into a sports game is pretty damm easy...sample some real crowds, put in the correct arena noises...

It's the easy bit...and yet they've stuffed it up three years running.

I saw an interview with the produce pre release and he said "wait till you hear our crowd...you'll think your in the middle of ARCO arena at a Kings v Lakers game".

Don't know where the hell the crowd went then, because on my 5:1 set up it sounds like I'm in an elevator with two people...one of whom is asleep

Re: Inside Drive Best BBALL SIM

I have a feeling the game was graphically toned down a TON in the midst of production. Probably because of frame rate issues that we were hearing about. The screenshots we had seen compared to the released game are like night and day. It's a shame, but I do believe they attempted to clean up the graphics and sound, but when it resulted in a frame rate issue, they figured that it would be better if they just toned down everything in order to have a better frame rate, and possibly fix the problem for next year. If this is the case, they made the right decision, and I'm glad they chose this route even if it meant the graphics and sound are subpar. The gameplay is more than enough to keep me satisfied, and they kept their priorities intact: it's always better to have a game that plays great rather than simply a game that looks great. I imagine if they kept the game the way it was and it did have frame rate issues, ID 2004 would be a serious bust, because few would have the patience to put up with bad frame rates. As it is, the game still has some audio/video kinks that need to be worked out and the graphics aren't even that good to begin with, so I do think the frame rate might have posed a serious dilemma if they had tried to implement better graphics.

I know I tend to overlook a lot of ID 2004's flaws, but it's because the game designers actually get it: they know what's more important and they pay attention to the details that actually matter (at least to me). I would be complaining a ton if ID 2004 wasn't the game it turned out to be, regardless if it was pretty or not.

I tend to look at the bigger picture rather than the smaller picture. The bigger picture in ID 2004 is much prettier than any b-ball game I've seen yet. To me, ID 2004 is more than the sum of its parts, while all the other b-ball games somehow come out less than the sum of its parts.

Hey Neo...haven't seen you around a while. Good post, as always.

Don't get me wrong, I love ID.

I don't mind the grpahics...although I feel they got really lazy with the 'lesser' player faces (I played Milwaukee the other night and all their bench players had the same face )

The sound just doesn't make much sense...it's an xbox, DD 5:1 game...and it can't be that hard to get it better than this after 3 years.

It's a pity as the series won't ever gain the respect it deserves with below par presentation.

Another example...SPOILER ALERT (is that the right term for a sports game? )

After the last game of the NBA Finals the commentators say "and they've won the NBA Finals"...

                        And that's it.

You get the exact same end game stuff, the player of the game wrap up etc...and nothing else.

When you go back to the main screen, there'a trophy photo.

That's it...for playing a full season, no extra hype in the finals, no extra commentary...just "they've won the NBA Finals" and the exact same end game stuff as every game before.

                        IMO that's pretty poor.

                              Hello guys,

                              I am new here.

I found out about this site while on Gamefaqs..... I currently have ESPN basketball and I must say that I am bored and frustrated with it. Ironically, I thought I was the only one that felt this way. I am glad to see that there are some gamers that actually watch the NBA. I definitely going to pick up INside Drive. And I must admit that I have liked ID since 2002.

What puzzles me is that out of the whole VC 2K series, NBA 2k1 was the best. I did not like 2K3 that much and I don't like 2K4 (ESPN). It is a dunk/fast-break fest. No strategy whatsoever. And what is surprising, ALOT of causual gamers love it.

WHy oh, why did they get rid of the playbook??? Why oh, why does the post game have zero moves to it??? THis leads me to alot of frustrations when trying to play a real NBA offense. For example, I am a T-wolves fan. Since Kevin Garnett (K.G.) is not a center it is hard for him (and him only) to post up. And when I do, the number of moves available to me make it useless. THe only thing to do from that position is to spin and dunk. Also, there are no plays run specifically for him. And since it is so easy to block/interrupt shots in this game, it is a chore to play any real type of game. Particularly the mid-range game. Everything are 3's and dunks.

Anyway, I am glad to find out that I can play with updated rosters online. Looking forward to seeing you guys out there. Take care.
