Online experience is unbelievably bad most times...

And it's all because of the game being set at default sliders. This means easy 3's, easy dunks. It's too easy for people to play the cheesy way rather than play the game the way it SHOULD be played. It's a terrible experience IMHO, and it prioritizes offense over defense. It's almost impossible to stop a player from running around and dunking the ball, or passing out from a shot right near the basket when it's about to be blocked, or just chucking 3's whenever and DRAINING them.

Whose bright idea was it to make the sliders unchangeable?

It's what ruins the online experience, IMHO. I've played against my brother, and he doesn't really know any better on how to play the game. But I can keep him in check because the sliders we play at aren't default. They're geared for realism, so he ends up losing most times. It's not that way online, and it's something that truly makes a well thought-out implementation online seem so bad.

Any tips on how to play D against these losers who choose to pick the Lakers or Raptors or whatever team and just run around looking for the dunk or the 3?

That is why players should join a league like the Summit. It's players that play the right way.

You will never play a ranked or unranked game again versus someone you don't know.

hey i agree with you. I like real basketball which is the reason i got drive instead of live.
this game is still too "fun" oriented. Sometimes great defense works , but the games tend to turn into a phony fest. Your best bet is joining a league if unlike me you have the time and commitment to playing in one...
My biggest complaint has been how the experienced players online are constantly swiping to steal and it really adds up by the time the game is over they usually have a high number of steals despite 6min qtrs... I can prevent steals by only dribbling with great handlers , barely ever doing a real speed post move, and constantly protecting the ball with the backdown button but even those measures which make the game less nba-like do not solve that problem. I have fixed it with turning fouls to strict which causes the bums who constantly swipe to rack up fouls , but then it makes dunks even easier for everyone because you cant block a shot without getting a foul most of the time

I am still looking for a game that if i play it the NBA way and play great basketball it will usually win against guys who form their style of play around the unrealistic advantages or glitches found in video games. I refuse to play cheesy and i know basketball like a coach but i lose often to guys who really have sucky basketball knowledge and no vision or plays - they just exploit the game.

ID is still maybe the best NBA game despite all my complaining - i will always want a perfect game which may never happen...

                Hey Neo,

I saw the other thread u started about how much u were enjoying yourself with the NBA ID online experience and i instantly said to myself (he hasn't played online enough). I can tell u that i haven't played online with this game in about 4-5 months because of the garbage u see online!

Cherry picking, guys holding turbo with KOBE running in circles until he gets a path and going in for the dunk, the glitch play when they pass it to the PF under the basket for a dunk everytime...
I can go on forever, that's just naming a few.

Like u said modified sliders would help but, these clowns would still find a way to make it a cheese fest one way or another. Playings guys from OS and joining leagues would help but the online experience has also exposed somethings that Microsoft needs to fix for head to head competition.

-better fatigue model for guys who abuse the turbo feature (they should be force to burn timeouts/make subs if used too much)

-add some sort of momentum, so guys just can't cut and turn any kind of way on the court. VC has implemented this feature for espn2k5 it'll be interesting to see how it turns out.

-it's MUCH to easy to make passes to players right under the basket players should be much more active playing those passing lanes to the post!

-Hacking/reaching, this is probably one of the most abused features online. This should be the most penalized tactic from a fouling standpoint. This would force players to play more position d-fense rather than running around swatting and hacking the entire game.

-Fast break. As good as the AI in ID is, this part of the game is extremely unrealistic in human vs. human play (none of the games actually have got this right yet). In video game b-ball a fastbreak is basically a long hail mary pass from one player to another, that's it! The outlet pass is waaay to accurate and effective resulting in cheap points and cherry picking. I'm still waiting on a developer to simulate how fast breaks should happen in a videogame as follows...

                -rebound
-get the ball to a ball handler
                -everyone else, fill the lanes

Not rebound throw a length of the court pass and then dunk or layup

In anycase like u stated the online play can really make a good game like ID very arcadey, therefore taking away from the experience. Hopefully these cheat tactics and AI flaws will be solved by the developers. Until then we have to deal with it or just play offline.

you don't have to deal with edubbs, there are alternatives that cut out the bull some players use.

At the summit you get 2 strikes, if you use any cheesy tactics that are strickly outlined in the league rules you get a strike, 2 and you are gone, no questions asked. We've booted our share but now we have over 25 solid members that play straight up, strategical, sim ball.

Plus the league doesn't load you down with time requirements. There are no schedules, you just log on and there is almost always 2-3 guys online. You can play each person up to 5 times. Playoffs once a month. Others should look into this.

We have one team open, but there is a good chance a second will be opening in several weeks.
