    Just bought an X-Box...

Is this game worth getting? How is the franchise mode? Franchise is the main draw for me. I liked Live 2004's gameplay, but the Franchise was terrible. There was a free agent bug and rookie scounting was atrocious. How is it in this game?

    Hows the gameplay?

Basically, please try to sell me on this game.

I'm not the biggest basketball fan but this one has made me one now. Once you fiddle around with the sliders the gameplay is really realistic. It's also good because mid-range jumpers are are large part of the game just like real life. Gameplay is excellent, I love the commentary and the graphics are passable. I think the animations are good as well except for the passing. I had Live 2004 as well and ID doesn't capture the hype as well. The player intros in ID are dull and the faces all look a little off, none of the star players have faces that are spot on. The crowd also doesn't get involved enough. But I like it the best because it has very well balanced gameplay. But if the ESPN series had this sort of gameplay then I think I'd choose that. It all depends on what you value more. If you're a simulation freak then this is the one for you. Let's put it this way, I have Halo, Project Gotham Racing 2 etc. but this is my favourite game. I can't wait for ID2006 because I think they're not releasing a 2005 version to create a really great all round basketball game.

Franchise mode is the one thing ID lacks, but no other game comes close to the gameplay so if all you're interested in is franchise then this might not be your game.

You can get this thing called "action replay" and then can download a roster file from codejunkies.com for new roster updates.

Franchise mode does the job for me. It doesn't have training or anything but I find trading is more difficult than NBA Live and it's good enough. To make the gameplay more realistic I suggest you check out the sliders thread. Because without adjusting the sliders there are too many dunks and it's too easy to score.
