Graphically, I like 2K10 better - looks more realistic (I actually like Live 09's graphics better than 10's). Presentation, again, I prefer 2K10.

Gameplay...hmmm...I love 2K's animations, best in the business. But Live 10 gave me better controls and even with some canned animations I think it was more 'controllable' than 2K10. And it was the first year that Live gave us more control, not just 2 buttons for shooting.

If you get the controls down (especially when going to the basket) you'll be able to avoid those couple of contact animations many people got tired of. It's really fun after you get used to the controls, and I actually never even took advantage of all the controls (didn't use much of the off-ball control stuff).

Overall, I think the gameplay in Live 10 was better because, again, it was more controllable. Also Live 10 defense around the rim was pretty nice. I still think animations/signature stuff weren't on par with 2K's, and I'm not sure they'll ever be, but it was good enough to enjoy the game.

One thing I didn't like about Live 10 and 09 was the post game. Live 08 started something good that needed a few tweaks (offensively and defensively) but instead of building and improving on it, I felt like the post game just took a hit from 09 and on. 2K10, on the other hand, had the best post game in the business back then, in my opinion. But again, the controls/animation didn't let it shine enough, or that's how I felt.

To sum it up: Graphics, presentation, animations, signature style - 2K. Gameplay overall - Live 10. That's just my opinion.
    My Specs:

    ZX Spectrum
    CPU: Z80 @ 3.5 MHz
    GPU: Monochrome display
    RAM: 48 KB
    OS: Sinclair BASIC

      Live 10, for sure.

For me, Live 10 was probably the greatest basketball game I've played yet. It had great control, and it felt like I had a toolbox of moves that I could pull off at any given time to get the shot I wanted.

2K10 on the other hand, did not feel like this. It felt like you had a very limited range of moves you can pull off that were actually meaningful. It didn't feel like I could get the exact shot I wanted with their system, and even 2K games today are the same way for me.

There also wasn't a lot of satisfaction with 2K in the visuals and how the shots looked, how the courts looked, etc. Making a shot left me very unsatisfied in 2K10 yet I loved every made shot in Live 10.

To me, 2K feels like you have to play the way the game mandates, whereas Live 10 lets you play how you want to. That's the best way I can describe it and even that doesn't do it justice. But Live 10 had a full bag of tricks that you could utilize and 2K really didn't.

That said, 2K10 was still a decent game. My favorite 2K game ever is 2K8, and my favorite bball game overall is Live 10.

Id say Live 10 was better. It had pretty good controls, and it introduced the playcalling system that we all now use, as well as off the ball player control, right stick passing, and you could choose if you wanted regular season or playoff atmosphere during any game.

I remember 2k10 having a sleuth of problems and had a patch notes like that was so long it was unbelievable. They had introduced some new nice Oops in the game, but the controls were wonky as heck... started with the combine if im not mistaken and you literally couldn't control your man trying to run around cones.

In Live 10 the players were bigger, the jumpshots were much much better than Live 09 and felt great and online was great also.

I pretty much played that most of the year, but after an update and patch it killed the game, it needed heavy edits (the ratings were awful) and it got stale because either the animations needed more variety, synergy wasn't stopping bigs from taking you off the dribble and shooting fadeaways, and just in general it eventually faded into Elite which wasn't a great idea.

I think NCAA 2010 should be added to this discussion. I absolutely loved it, except for that fact that it would freeze and never got a patch to address it. As a title it expanded on the NBA title. Really enjoyed it...HATED that EA left it dead in the water.
I am the lesson after the fall.
