    Player editing question

I played ID for the first time a month ago and was blown away. The on-court action and strategy possible combine to make what could be the best bball game around. The thing holding the game back was that the designers didn't seem to really care what ratings they gave guys. On the default settings Elton Brand plays like a guard where as Darko Milicic is a monster in the post.

I've started to edit the players so that I can get the game and players playing how I feel they should play. The problem that I've run into is the dunk/jump ratings. No matter what I do guys seem to be able to pull some spectacular dunks. The team thta I use as my editing test dummies are the Blazers. Darius Miles can throw down anything short of a between the legs where as Derrick Anderson can get up there but his dunks are more basic. I also use Charles Smith in the test because he's dunking ability is even more basic than DA's.

The problem I'm having is tht while DMiles dunking seems to be where it needs to be but DA's and Smith's are off. They are jumping from the dotted-line throwing down one-handed tomahawks. Can someone please fill me in as to how to edit the dunking ability of players to turn down the more spectacular dunking?

I figured out some of the rating issues I was having. The Showtime rating changes everything.

Showtime decides the flashiness of your player's dunks and the quickness of their crossover. Ballhandling seems to have more of an affect on crossovers than dekes does.

I'm about to start experimenting on the low post game next. When I get done I'll post more of the stuff I've come across.

To have a normal realistic dunk ability for an avd dunking player() is aprox 55 for dunk and 45 for range. Great dunkers(vince carter) get aprox 85 for dunk and 75 for range. Most good players are like 60dunk and 45range, cant dunk?=leave at 15s ,

these numbers sound low , but for one reason or another (probably what sells) The dunks were over done to the point that a good player can perform spectacular dunks with dunk ratings much above 60 or so.

I have created a ton of players and that was one of my issues because you cant reduce ratings once u finish a created player and use him , so for example i had to totally redo bill cartwright when he was doing those long-range floating 2handed dunks and such. I made like 7 different classic champion teams as real as i could (including real dunking ability) and i usually use a 59rated team of regular streetball guys that i used to play playground basketball with and that team averages like 1 or 2 dunks a game(because they werent great nba quality dunkers) so i am pretty happy with my feel for the numbers and my suggestions above should work well although they seem low based on how everyone is overrated at dunking by default.

You are right about the showtime. I looked back at different guys who had different showtime and other ratings and it really affects what kind of moves they do. It makes the game seem better too because it "seems" like even more animations..
