Microsoft Interview: touches on why ID + Fever were axed

    Link

MGS's sports line up definitely got its share of criticisms, even with the XSN support. What was the thinking behind scrapping the 2004-2005 crop of MGS sports games?

Shane Kim: When I assumed this position in January, we took a very hard look at our entire portfolio of teams and titles and tried to decide which we really believed were going to meet that bar. We realized that frankly, we need to do better in the sports area. Now, as a platform, we're very fortunate because we've got great partners such as Electronic Arts and Sega. Sports is a very important category for Xbox. Of course bringing Electronic Arts to Xbox Live certainly helps, but the decision really had more to do with what was best for our customers.

Were the negotiations with EA in bringing their titles to Xbox Live a determining factor in canceling MGS sports games this year?

Shane Kim: EA wanted to bring their titles to Xbox Live even if we were doing XSN sports titles this year. Xbox and Xbox Live wanted to have EA titles on Xbox Live even if we were doing XSN sports titles. At the end of the day, regardless of the philosophical or business differences that may have been real or imagined, everybody listened to their customers. These same customers who love the EA franchises believe that the games play better and look better on Xbox and they want to be able to play them on Xbox Live.
    Damn you, casual bball gamers!

I'm curious to find out if they're coming back for the XBOX2. Anyone have any information on that? I really think that if they come back, they'll definitely be the greater buy since they just started themselves. I really didn't play NFL FEVER, but I have ID04. ID was pretty decent compared to the other two. The graphics were the tightest, except for the player faces which were just unexcusably horrible. I really couldn't get into it. The movement was subpar, but I loved the jump shots. They were the tightest. I hated the lack of movement with the crossovers. I feel that if they stepped up the crossovers, had the rosters on point, improved on the dead look of the animations (gave them "emotions"), and had a deeper and more realistic franchise mode, the game would get my first dollars. It wasn't a bad game at all. Well, it wasn't a bad thought for a game at all. I just hope they make a comeback. They'll be missed....
