Why do people think Inside Drive was the best?

I've heard of a lot of people who say that the Inside Drive series was the best basketball franchise. I want to know why. Is there a long review of the game posted anywhere that does a good job of explaining why people think this game is so great? I played it 2004 for a few days and found it had clunky controls, and not nearly as realistic as people tout it to be. I want to read some well-thought out second opinions.

i didnt think it was that great either. the best parts of the game is that the teams ran plays and the player tendencies really made a difference.

the game never felt "user" friendly to me. i only played it for about 3-5 days. i will play ID b4 i play ESPN though.

IMO, it forced you to use ball control...you had to pass the ball around and find the open man, whereas in the other games they put a lot more into one on one drives...

In ID the focus was more on the team game, although the superstars of the league, could take over a game from time to time just like in real life. For example, I played with the Knicks. I would try to get Kurt Thomas started early so that they would start to double him. When they did that, a quick dish out to Marbury followed by a snap pass to Houston at the top of the key and swish. It really felt like you were playing basketball out there.

In ID the focus was more on the team game, although the superstars of the league, could take over a game from time to time just like in real life. For example, I played with the Knicks. Other guys already mentioned the player tendency sliders and the team playbooks, (the 2 biggies that I enjoy about the game the most) so I want to talk about your stuff about the controls being 'clunky'... Dude the controls in ESPN NBA 2K4 were way worse then the controls in ID 2004. The only criticism I have of the ID 2004 controls is the rebounding never did seem to work for me. Maybe I just suck at timing the rebounding, but I have read others who wrote that that was the only issue they had with the controls.

the only issue i had with inside drive was graphics. other than that it was great.

It was great, esp. 03 because once you get past the graphics, and the sometimes odd controls it is SMART...just straight up basketball...if it works in real life, it pretty much worked on drive.
