What does Live have to do to get you to switch from 2k to Live 17? (my list)

For me, Online play is a big focus... if they can do this, I'll switch to Live 17 for online play:

    - No Microtransactions! VC killed 2k for me.

    - No grind! I hate that I have to spend tons of hours offline before I can play online. Player progression and Rep would be great, but don't make it a 2nd job - make it fun.

    - REAL matchmaking. I want to be able to easily connect with friends (or potential teammates), I don't want to wait 20minutes on a "got next spot", etc.

    - Matchmaking tools. Look at MMOs for this. In-game friend's list and "Looking for Game" would be amazing. Borrow the "Clan" and "War" system for Teams and matches.

    - Let us make COOL looking players. This sounds trivial, but Live Pro-Am demo had us dressing in some awful gear and the faces/hair styles were bad too... 2k has had the same hair and 90s Dollar Bin clothes for a while, so you'd not have to work that hard to beat them. Short shorts, Classic Fros, crazy outfits - anything to add some variety.

    - Smooth controls 2k does a great job at this, though they do have issues... One thing 2k does is put invisible magnets around players that push/pull people around them - if Live can let me feel more in control, I'd switch in a heartbeat.

The last Live I played was the free ProAm demo... it had some awesome looking courts, I loved how it'd show "Assist" over my head if I did an assist, etc... It had potential.

Threads with the sole intent of discussing the two games directly are moved to the 'Other Basketball Forum'

To add, while comparisons are inevitable to some degree, the purpose of the Live forum isnt to air your grievances about 2k...its to primarily discuss NBA Live...

Ultimate team and micro transactions go together like Peas and Carrots. This more than likely will be the main mode.

My bad... do you think that hurts this forum, though? There's only like 5 posts...

It seems like a legit topic, to me. I won't buy Live unless it's better than 2k, that's just kinda the reality of it.

Give me some working sliders and improved post game. Throw in realistic fastbreaks for the cherry on top.

          Keep the shooting percentages low.

Well its not something I personally put in place but I do think the focus should be on rebuilding the Live community...having it stand on its own two feet instead of viewing it as some kind of 'anti-2k'

It's pretty simple for me. If EA makes an accurate NBA simulation then I would play it.

The year I did switch back over to Live was for NBA Live 10. They used Synergy data that accurately reflected shooting %s for players, player and team tendencies, etc. The game was updated practically daily for the entire NBA season and reflected in-game tendencies, trends, hot/cold streaks, injuries, line-up changes, etc.

In short, it was a pretty authentic representation of the NBA game and made for a ton of fun sim-style games.

Take Synergy data and balance your game around simulation style and accurate NBA data, add lobbies with chat online for match-making (look at NBA 2K6/7/8 to get an idea of how they did it) and you're off to a good start. IMO.

I wish I could like this post twice. So very true. They had the formula down. The games felt different and the arena environment was on point. I can't wait for some reveals of 17.

Arena environment - word. That was a "minor" type detail that goes a long way, IMO.

I think the core of the game just needs to be based on being an accurate NBA sim like Live 10 was/is. Balance the game around real analytical data, update the game daily (if possible) and just make a quality NBA sim. Focus on basic online matchmaking and basic offline modes (Franchise, Season, etc.). Keep it tightly focused on providing good and realistic gameplay in the base game and you'll be good. Sim players will find the game, make new friends on their list to play good games with, etc. Oh, and make the game available on PC!

If you want to add maybe an extra cherry on top, continue the EA version of "My Player" type thing and make that more realistic as well. Realism and sim-ball *is* how 2K dethroned Live as the bball video game king, after all.

Yea, but now look at 2k... 2k17 is a mess, a jambalaya of animations and unrealistic basketball... I told my brother this last week.... EA Sports has a window of opportunity this year to recapture the basketball game market, IF they do it right. 2k has gotten out of their lane and are SO focused on micro transactions that EVERY mode you do you have to spend Virtual Currency just to enjoy it. I use to play Franchise modes for months but now I don't touch it because I have to pay to play even though I paid for a game TO play..!? They also make you spend hours to build a guy that is good enough to bring online to play against no lifers. Not to mention 2k is now HEAVY with animations... they have to much animation fat in the game. haha

All EA has to do is get their game graphics and animations in order (not to animation heavy), make the game smooth and have a system in place that allows you to have a guy to play online but that allows you to level him up during online games similar to FIFA, maybe? That one can be tricky because you'll have guys that will ball hog and spam moves and make the online experience horrible.

All I know is their is a window of opportunity for Live/EA to get back "In the Game" as a basketball franchise this year.

Just an offline fully featured season mode with solid overall simlike gameplay and ill switch over in a heartbeat. A working ultimate team mode would top it as I like these kind of modes in general, just not this cash grab like 2k is.

Oh, and a dev team that actually communicates/takes feedback with/from its community...
