As long as he stays south of the Mason-Dixon line, Illini nation will be happy.

"Fairness" is a very subjective term. I doubt very many Volunteer fans would be happy to see their program go on probation on the basis of the minor infractions (aka T-shirt) that were involved with the Pearl-Illinois fracas.

Rather, the Tennessee faithful no doubt would see the whining coach who made the frivolous charges to the NCAA for what he really is. It was not noble but rather it was self-serving for Pearl to "rat" out Illinois to justify why Pearl lost out on his own pursuit of a prized recruit. Likewise, there is nothing noble about a program like Iowa sabotaging another program it can't compete against on the court.

I hope the current (and future) Tennessee program is as squeaky clean as you apparently believe it to be. I'd be willing to bet good money, though, that the current program would not stand up to the same level of scrutiny that Pearl put Illinois under those many years ago. And when (not if, but when!) Tennessee goes under probation, that loud cheer you hear from up north will be a cheer of redemption from Illinois.

UT loves rats. Fulmer sold Alabama out and Pearl did the same to Illinois.

My understanding was that the NCAA violations were much more than some t-shirts. I believe there was the offer of a car and some money as well. The other thing is you guys didn't get put on probation for violations Pearl reported, but others a couple years later.

Pearl has been a stand up guy and people in Knoxville love him. I like him because he coaches basketball and not NBA-esque one-on-one ball. He is a good coach. He proved that last year by taking the a 14 - 17 team less the two top scorers and beating a top 10 ranked Texas team, Florida (twice) and Kentucky at Rupp.

We wandered in basketball limbo for so many years, I am excited that we now don't just have a team, but a program.

Alabama screwed itself. Fulmer did nothing but report a major violation. When someone pays off a high school coach so they can get a recruit, I can hardly feel pity for them. The Tommy Gallon subpoena was a baseless claim with no other purpose than to self-promote a small town lawyer.

        See you next Saturday night.

That's the whole point. The reason that Illinois wasn't put on probation due to Pearl's FALSE(!) accusations was that no evidence was found, despite a thorough investigation by the NCAA. Because the investigation did find other unrelated infractions in no way justifies or vindicates Bruce Pearl as the noble saint you portray him as.

Basically, Pearl lost out to Illinois on a prized recruit. Not willing to respect the recruit's decision, Pearl persisted with his contacts of the recruit. In one of those conversations, Pearl secretly recorded a phone conversation (an illegal act on his part!) in which an SUV was mentioned. What do you do when dealing with a salesman who will not take no for an answer? If the salesman doesn't accept your honest rationale for your decision, would you say other things to get him off of your back? I admit that I have in the past. Then, if the salesman took you to court based on illegally taping your conversations? Obviously, most would never do business again with either the saleman or his company.

Bruce Pearl's actions were not self-sacrificing, but rather self-serving. Pearl needed to defend his reputation as a recruiter. Iowa also needed to preserve its needed recruiting pipeline into the metro Chicago area. There is no better way to do the latter than to bring down the largest in-state competitor, if possible.

I stand by my contention that whatever misfortunes fall upon either Bruce Pearl or UT Athletics will be well deserved.

I'll be cheering for 'Bama come Saturday.

As for the above comment, typical Bammer logic. It amazes me that Bama fans to continue to ignore the fact that like 3/4th's of the SEC coaches reported Bama including big wigs Lou Holtz and Spurrier. Keep the blinders on and enjoy the a$$ beating you will receive on Saturday and enjoy the long trip back to Tuscaloserville.
