Re: How is YOUR Career Legacy going?!?!

My team caught fire and we finished the season 17-12 winning the conference tournament. I don't know where it came from. Instead of taking only 5 or 6 3''s a game since my team was terrible, the key to winning was chucking up 25 a game and hoping I hit 10. My team shot terrible from anywhere on the court, so chucking up 3's didn't hurt since I was going to finish the game shooting 38% either way.

I received a 16 seed and faced UNC in round 1. They won 53-64 and went on to win the title. I lost 6 players to graduation and regressed from a 70 to a 65. However my two best players are freshmen and my team now actually has some offense to it despite "regressing". My PG can drive and shoot a jumper and is able to take a couple 3's a game and make 1. My SG can drive and hit a jumper and is also able to probably hit 1 in 2 or 3 3's per game. He is one of the Fr. My SF is actually a PF and is the other highly rated Fr. He can hit a mid range jumper or play in the post. My PF and C are a Jr and So and can play the post and rebound.

Coming off of the bench for the 6th man role is my best all around scorer probably, but he lacks the defense to start. Then I have another big man to rotate for the two starters as well as a SF that plays SG as well and then a true backup PG that plays a handful of minutes.

I set my nonconference schedule up to feature a good amount of weaker teams this year, so I am looking to grab a few more wins than the last few years. If my defense isn't too big of a liability this season I may be able to get to that 20 win mark this time around and maybe even get lucky enough to win the conference tournament again. Delaware St is still the best team at around a 73-75, but they have yet to win the regular season title or even make the conference championship game in either season, so they aren't as scary anymore since they tend to not play to their potential either. Bethune Cookman is who has won both regular season titles and the other conference tournament despite only being a 70 both years.

Re: How is YOUR Career Legacy going?!?!

I finished up year 3. I used to play every game, every minute, but with this legacy(and sports games in general) I've gotten more into playing and simming since I just don't have as much free time as I used to.

Year 1 was 7-22, then I went 17-14 with a conference tournament championship and then a 53-64 loss against eventual champion 1 seed UNC in round 1, and last season I went 16-14 with a loss in round 2 of the conference tournament.

I only had 2 scholarships to give last year and the two players came in as 49 and 53 overalls. That's a 2nd straight class where the players came in a lot lower than they had been scouted so I decided to let my assistant coach go that did all of the scouting and brought in a new guy that is either a B or B+ scout. Fortunately in my first class of 6 I did get a few players that were decent as my SG and SF were my best two players as freshman last year and return as my top two players this season as well. In the middle of last year my team developed enough to where I had 5 players above 60 overall for the first time this legacy. All of those players returned as well.

I just opened up year 4 with a 65-103 loss to 20 Georgetown in a tournament that the schedule automatically had me in. I didn't touch the schedule this year like I did last. I have a decently tough schedule with a number of power conference teams and two tournaments. Even though I gave up 103 points to start the year off I am hoping I can have similar defensive success like last season where I finished the year at 15th in defensive efficiency. If only my offense wasn't so inconsistent I could potentially tear it up in conference play more like year 2 where I went 15-3 I think it was. This team is still just frustrating to play with at times. In my other legacies like the 7 years at Chattanooga I mostly suffered with defense and had fine offenses. It's obviously the reverse this time around. I have some plays that get guys under the hood uncontested at times and half of the attempts never make it above the rim on the layups. I've had sequences where I get a few steals in a row and miss all the fast break layups as well. It's infuriating, but something I've just got to deal with.

I liked it better when I couldn't stop anything because I always felt comfortable that I could match the opposition when their talent was relatively the same. This legacy has made every single offensive possession feel like a battle and when I score 8 straight points to go on a small run it feels so satisfying because of how tough it is with these players. My top 3PT shooters have a 71, 66, 64 for their ratings. My top post players have 71, 69, 66. My best mid range shooters are 71, 71, and 65. There's just not anyone that can really do anything great, they're all below average across the board. That's something I am really trying to fix this recruiting cycle, but with only 3 scholarships it will be hard. Part of me wants to only offer 2 scholarships and hope I get a transfer to come in, but I don't have much experience with transfers to know how often they come to smaller schools. I have mostly dealt with transfers out in other legacies and not transfers in. If anyone can comment on that I'd appreciate it.

After my season last year I was offered a 4 year extension and then I was also offered a few jobs including Harvard who was an 81 overall and they had 10 beside their name, but I wasn't sure if that was a 10 seed or not because I highly doubt they made it to the top 10 in the polls. I declined it. I want to be at this school for around 6 years at least and see what I can build up. I might even stay longer really if I can get some things rolling. I just really need an influx of offense and I need it yesterday.

      ___

I just played my next game against Bowling Green for 3rd place in the 4 team tournament and my team shot 33% in the 1st half and was trailing 26-34. Brady, my 6'8" SF that moves like a guard had a decent ending to the half to bring it within 8. It was 12 I think at one point. The second half started and my team probably just had the most dominant half they've had in this legacy. I came out and hit my first 7 shots, started the half on a 21-3 run and ended up outscoring them 46-19 in the second half. for a pretty easy 72-53 win. I've never had a run like that in this legacy. I don't really remember having too many runs like that ever against a team that was so much more talented than mine. Chances are I lose that game 4 times out of 5, but I was fortunate enough to catch the 1 there. I held them to around 37% shooting, 1 of 16 from 3 even though a good amount were not bad looks.

Hopefully that's a type of win I can build off of. My team only shot 46% so it isn't like I just shot lights out as well. Brady ended up 9-17 with 28 points. If my team hadn't missed about 15 free throws on the game it could've been even uglier. It's so nice to get a win like that after 3 seasons of being on the other side so many times or just grinding out wins when I can.

Re: How is YOUR Career Legacy going?!?!

In my second year At Northeastern I had a breakthrough. Last year I won the regular season title at 10-6 in the league and finished 16-16 with a loss in the NIT after losing the ine first round of the conference tourney.
This year I started well, making it to MSG in the 2k tourney and giving No. 23 Vandy a go before falling to them and Texas A&M in the 3rd place game. I ended up 9-7 in the league, finishing third. But when 2nd-seeded Stony Brook lost, I ended up in the final. I played hated rival BU for the AE title. They won 26 games and ended up getting an 8-seed in the NCAAs, but they needed an at-large because I BEAT THEM!
I ended up a 13 in the midwest, where No. 4 Arizona beat me by 50 ha.
I got the no. 30 recruiting class in the country, and I think I'm a couple of years from turning my alma mater into the next Gonzaga. Only problem is I'm only drawing 3s and 4s in recruiting, I can't get guards or centers. But I got my 1st 4-star recruit, I'll figure out how to use everyone ha.
I got offered about 20 jobs, but I'm staying with MY school.

First year in a while I didn't fire up a legacy around tourney time, school is tough! This mean I am getting old?

Re: How is YOUR Career Legacy going?!?!

I started a legacy a few months ago after not having played the game for a couple of years. I enjoy simming, sometimes through Hoop Cast, and others just a straight sim. It's been my most enjoyable one so far. It's taken me the longest amount of time I've ever encountered to win an NCAA tournament game and I still haven't made a Sweet 16 and it's about to roll into the 2026-2027 season.

Started at South Dakota State, and I do employ some recruiting restrictions like no world recruits and I try to stick to recruiting within only my region. Figured starting in Brookings, South Dakota would make that tougher, and it did for a bit.

              2007-08: 12-19
              2008-09: 10-22
              2009-10: 13-17
2010-11: 18-13 -- somehow snuck into the NIT; believe my SOS was crazy high
2011-12: 8-19 -- lost some key seniors and the squad was very young
2012-13: 26-8 -- Went to the NIT. Grabbed a couple good low-to-mid-70's FR that helped turn things around
2013-14: 24-8 -- My first tournament appearance and lost in the first round
2014-15: 27-6 -- NIT after being upset in my conference tournament
2015-16: 26-4 -- NIT after beating up on a very weak schedule/losing in conference tournament
2016-17: 28-4 -- Won the regular season and conference tournament crowns; lost in the NCAA first round
2017-18: 28-5 -- Another first round exit in the NCAA's.
2018-19: 29-4 -- Another first round exit. Consistent 17-1 records for like 3-4 years straight in the Summit League

I was at South Dakota State for 12 years and I'd never stayed at my starting school that long before finally leaving. It took a solid half-decade before I finally found a consistent winning formula.

Record at South Dakota State: 249-129 (0.659 win percentage). 2012-13 onward I was 188-39 (0.828 win percentage).

I turned down offers from Mid-Major schools yearly. None seemed like a good fit for me. I almost bolted for Bradley around 2016 or 2017 but decided not to. Bradley was coming off a 25+ win season and seemed like a great spot for me to land and then jump to a Major/Power conference after a couple of years. But I learned to enjoy the struggle both recruiting-wise and location wise. I chose Northeastern who were coming off of a six-win season when I took over the Huskies in the Colonial Athletic Conference.

              2019-20: 13-14
              2020-21: 16-15
              2021-22: 14-13
2022-23: 21-7 -- No postseason, my RPI was garbage
2023-24: 25-7 -- My team rating was around 3-4 points higher than the second best team. We were around 83 overall and managed to grab regular season/tournament titles. And we finally got to enjoy a victory in the opening round of the NCAA's! We were bounced in the second.
2024-25: 26-8 -- Another First Round win! Then we were trounced by Alabama who won the National Title. They beat us something like 93-49.

Record at Northeastern: 115-64 (0.642) but a great three-year run at 72-22 (0.766). Not quite as dominant as the end of my run at South Dakota State, but the conference as a whole is tougher. Usually a two-bid league and half the conference sits between 77-80 with me at 85. The teams below me have fluctuated in who is good each year, but there's always a good challenge. I've gone 15-3 in conference play the last two years, winning back-to-back regular season titles and one conference title, to boot.

Really enjoyed the struggle of trying to reform teams. I'm picking my next job very carefully. I'm only looking for a Major conference team and then after spending time there, jumping to a Power conference. However, I'm not going to take over an already-good Major conference team because I want the challenge. It's also been great to see South Dakota State continue their success without me. They've gone:

2019-20: 28-5 (17-1); Regular season and tournament champs
2020-21: 25-7 (17-1); Regular season and tournament champs
2021-22: 29-4 (16-2); Regular season and tournament champs
2022-23: 31-4 (18-0); Regular season and tournament champs

2023-24 the conference was won by Southern Utah (14-4) and the tournament title went to Oral Roberts. In 2024-25 UL-Calcutta won the regular season title at 15-3 but SD State won the auto bid by beating Oral Roberts for the tournament title crown. They hired an assistant named Bubba Souffrant who was 41 at the time and I think came from Alabama. He was there for the first two years (34-2 conference record, 53-12 overall record. He bolted for Rhode Island where he's gone 81-40 and improved to an A- overall (with A- charisma, A+ scouting, B offense and A+ defense). A guy named Jackson Arline replaced Souffrant, and he was a coach with a clean record when taking the job and left with a stellar 60-8 (34-2 in conference) record. He has been at San Diego State for two years and gone 56-14 there, to give him a 116-22 record. He's an A- overall coach who is appearing to soar through the coaching rankings at only 44 years old. I love following coaches who replaced me after I left schools, as well as my assistants.

Still love the heck out of this game!

Re: How is YOUR Career Legacy going?!?!

Just started one with St. Francis PA. I won my first game against Sacramento State by like 30+ points, and i was beating Albany by like ten late in the second half, but they started intentional fouling like crazy. I couldn't move a foot down the court without getting fouled. Frustrated, I tried passing the ball quickly down the court, and that led to erratic passes that led to steals. Because of this, they ended up coming back and beating me by a point. I know intentional fouling happens in the real world, but it's so annoying on 2k8 and it happens way more often than it does in real basketball. Anyone know how to turn intentional fouling down or off for cpu?

A few more seasons in the book and I did exactly what I said I wouldn't do: jumped to a power conference school. The Michigan State job came open, and it's one of my two favorite schools and I've never had the chance to get that job in a closed legacy before. So I decided to jump ship. However, I had a couple more 20-win seasons at Northeastern before taking off.

2025-26: 26-7 with another first round exit in the NCAA's.
2026-27: 24-10 and a bid in the NIT. I lost in the second round.
2027-28: 25-7 and I finally broke through with my Huskies to the Sweet Sixteen. It took me until my 21st season to advance to the Sweet Sixteen in the NCAA Tournament.

My total run with Northeastern totaled a 190-88 (0.683 winning percentage). However, since the 2022-23 season, I had a record of 147-46 (0.762).

My former school, South Dakota State, continued their dominance of the Summit. After back-to-back seasons without a regular or conference tournament title in 2023-24 and 2024-25, South Dakota State went 28-4 (18-0) and 21-9 (16-2) to win back-to-back conference titles in the 2025-26 and 2026-27 seasons. They did not with either titles in 2027-28 season. They limped to an 18-12 season in 2027-28. Doyle Homan, a 53-year-old is in his fourth season at the helm with an overall record of just 242-299, but has, for the most part, continued the success at SDS.

As for Bubba Souffrant, the man who originally took over for me at South Dakota State, he's still going strong at Rhode Island, coming off of a 24-13 season. He is now 50 and boasts a 207-94 record, good for a 0.688 winning percentage. He is searching for his first A-10 regular season or conference tournament title.

Souffrant left for the Rams and was replaced by Jackson Arline. He went 23-9 at San Diego State last season and is 47 years old. At South Dakota State he held a record of 60-8 when he left. He's gone 125-48 in his six seasons at the helm at San Diego State, good for a 0.722 winning percentage. Overall, he's 185-56 (0.768) at just 47 years old. In eight seasons as a head coach, he's averaging 23 wins and 6 losses per year. If he keeps up that average and coaches until he's 65, he's looking at another 414 wins and 108 losses, which would put him at 599-156 (0.793) for his career. Not bad!

As for Northeastern, they hired Elmore Gogerty, a 46-year-old who comes to the Huskies with a 57-53 overall record and a B rating, though it's not distributed too well. He's at a A- for offense, A+ for teaching, B+ for discipline. He's just a C+ for charisma and scouting and a C for defense. It'll be interesting to see what caliber of recruits he pulls in.

Finally, for the Spartans, Richard Harrison's new team, they've won two of the last four regular season and conference tournament titles (2024-25 and 2027-28) and have seven scholarships available. There's a big chance to put my stamp on the Spartans roster immediately. They're coming off of a 29-5 record -- 14-4 in conference play -- and I think an average of 25 wins every year in East Lansing is not a lofty goal.

                  On to the games!

Currently in Year 1 with the Arkansas Pine Bluff Golden Lions. I'm 4-4. We've played Louisiana Tech twice (No idea why). We recently lost to #1 Texas A&M on the road 74-76. I missed the game winning 3 to pull the upset of the century. About to play Houston and then start conference play.

I play this kind of screw around legacy where halves are 5 mins long and do a lot of random experiment stuff. Anyways I'm like 30 years in and realized that I have an 84 year old assistant coach! Do assistant coaches ever just retire? Like will I be able to keep this guy until for the last few years and into his 90s?

I don't have an answer but now I'm totally curious who has had the oldest assistant lol, I'd love it if there was some strange flaw where a 130 year old dude hung on til the very end

I think it's a bug, but I've seen plenty of assistants (never my own), that have been like 80-90+. I usually keep my assistants for awhile and let them go, so they can potentially get jobs (that was before I knew your assistants could actually leave in open legacy).

Also, something I do with assistants to keep the game kinda fresh and at least keep some of the good coaches around longer and more realistic ages. I look at there ambition (potential rating for coaches) and if they're extremely ambitious I use the random generator between 25-40 for the age. I only do it for assistants that have never been a hc. If they are (I forgot the actual sentence) but if they are ambitious and driven to improve and get a new coaching job, and they are over ~53 I drop their ages to 40. I keep a few 50+ because they're are some new coaches that are in their 50's.

But to the question above, I'm not sure if assistants retire/disappear. Because I've seen 70+yr old first year head coaches.

I had the chance to 'upgrade' my assistants from the two B- guys I had to some solid B's, and one guy I chose is 74 years old. I'll let you know how long he sticks around.

Has anyone ever started an open legacy with a coach with all D- or F attributes, and then completed the dynasty using up every possible attribute and having all A+? Is it even possible?

Also - what's the hightest possible 3 point shooting attribute anyone has ever seen in one of your legacy's? I don't think I've ever seen a player with over an 85 3 point shot.
