Re: How is YOUR Career Legacy going?!?!

Superjames1992 may be exploring the far future, but Coach Shan Minatee's 2007-2008 Western Illinois Leathernecks are one win away from the school's first ever NCAA Tournament bid. The Leathernecks dispatched a George Hill led IUPUI squad in the quarterfinals, and then controlled the game against Southern Utah to grab the first spot in tomorrow's championship. They'll face off against Oral Roberts. The Golden Eagles returned to the form that won them the regular season championship in the nightcap. North Dakota State was no match, and ORU rolled 91-52.

The sixth-seeded Leathernecks, perennial cellar dwellers in the Mid-Continent, may have surprised some with their run to the title game. With Minatee at the helm and senior SG David Jackson leading a balanced attack, it's been a refreshing season in Macomb. The Leathernecks beat Missouri back in November, and posted a respectable .500 conference record before shining here in Little Rock. One more win would give them twenty for the first time in more than a decade, and more importantly, secure WIU's first postseason appearance.

      ORU WINS SUMMIT

The Oral Roberts Golden Eagles were too strong for upstart Western Illinois in the finals of the Summit League Tournament. They held the opposing Leathernecks to only 24 points in the first half, en route to a commanding lead after the opening stanza. The final score finished at 83-61.

ORU shot 49% and won the rebounding contest 52-25. Robert Jarvis scored 23 to lead all in scoring. Marchello Vealy and senior center Shawn King recorded double-digit rebounds to headline a frontcourt rotation that appears to be peaking at the right time. The Golden Eagles will be tuned in to CBS on Sunday to see where they will land in the bracket. Expert projections put the regular season and tournament champions at around a #13 seed.

The simulator in this game is broken....
I just went 6-12 in the Pac 10 with a 95 ovr team.
And why do players get injured so much?

Re: How is YOUR Career Legacy going?!?!

My current career has really hit a strong stride by sticking in the greater Dallas-Ft. Worth area. I started with UT-Arlington (after a little bit of lineup-setting-cheese to get them available in Career) and spent 6 seasons there mostly simming, and taking advantage of the low program-to-population ratio of the area to pull in some solid classes. After back-to-back Sweet 16 runs and the team getting up to the mid 80s in overall, the nearby North Texas job opened up, which made for the perfect move up the ladder while sticking in the area. It took 5 seasons to get North Texas up to the top of the Sun Belt consistently; we rode a strong senior class the first season to snatch a tourney berth with a conference tournament upset, but after that, we had to rebuild. Fittingly enough, we took some beatings from UT-Arlington in the first couple seasons, but I like to schedule all the local schools to try to earn bragging rights, kinda like how the Philly Big 5 all play each other. We scored a local 5-star SG (#25) in our first recruiting class who is now a senior, just added the state Mr. Basketball, All-American local PG, and have generally been able to recruit top-150 local players to fit our 4-out system. The current version's team is an 89 overall at the start of the season, so we are expecting a solid season. In the future, I'm looking to stay in-state with career moves, or even within the metro area, so waiting for TCU, SMU, Baylor, Texas, Texas Tech, or A&M to open up.

Sidenote: I've found that cross-referencing a list of the US metropolitan statistical areas with the programs in each area has been helpful for figuring out programs that are going to be in advantageous situations. A couple of ones I particularly like are:

LA: Despite there being a bunch of programs here, the population is so high that even if you're not UCLA or USC, you have a good shot at some solid players. I especially like Loyola Marymount, since there aren't many mid-major programs in the area, so you can find a good groove by targeting the players a tier below the ones USC or UCLA are going after, or the elite players that USC and UCLA have no space for, while beating out the plethora of small schools. San Diego being near-ish allows for you to supplement the LA talent pool.

Dallas-Ft. Worth: As mentioned above, this area has no Power conference schools in it directly, though Baylor is close by (not sure if Dallas recruits are Mun or Loc to Baylor). Texas, Texas Tech, and A&M will all jump in as well on Dallas recruits, but not always, as they also will look at the Houston area (which I'll discuss below).

Houston: Rice and Houston can definitely assemble Power conference-level talent from the local recruiting pool here, while Texas Southern and Prairie View can punch above their weight by grabbing some of the local recruits. A&M is the main Power conference threat nearby, though LSU and the other Texas Power conference schools will also jump on Houston recruits at times.

Miami-Ft. Lauderdale: Obviously there is Miami to contend with, but there's a good talent pool for FAU or FIU to recruit as well, as no other schools are nearby enough to be much of a threat.

Minneapolis-St. Paul: I haven't actually played with Minnesota, but given it is the only D1 program in the state, it seems like it should be able to dominate the local recruiting scene in the relatively populous Minneapolis area.

Solid idea for sure and some good research to back it up. Deciding to stick to one area is pretty cool and actually makes the legacy feel a lot fresher, its something I have trying in my current legacy. Currently at UC-Davis and planning to stick in the LA area due to the talent pool.
Have you thought of putting a "house rule" recruiting restriction on yourself and only recruit LOCAL or REGIONAL players? It makes the recruiting cheeses a lot less frequent and adds some depth/difficulty to the game, especially if you are trying to become sort of a "Local Legend".
Thanks for sharing the update, always good to see updates to this thread!

I have restrictions on who I can recruit, its a bit lengthy but I posted in the "house rules" thread awhile back. Its similar to your last paragraph, it's been really fun and definitely improved my legacy.

However, after this season, I'm thinking of switching things up. I am going to assign each of my coaches an area of the country to recruit from. It seems like CBB coaches have areas of the country they specialize in. I'm toying with how to make it work but I'm only 7 games in to this season so I have time. If anyone has suggestions on assigning my assistants recruiting areas, I'm all ears.

I played a legacy with Morehead State like 10 years ago and I still have fond memories of that team! I loved Maze Stallworth and TJ Clark! It's a little disappointing that Kenneth Faried wasn't really known yet at that point but it's still pretty fun getting to play with him haha.

My xbox crashed and I lost all of my files from CHoops from the past 7 or 8 years or so. I ended up starting a new legacy with UT Martin, the team I first played with over a decade ago. I decided I would try playing super small ball and see how effective it is. We all know the power of the big man in this game but I thought I'd take it the other way. I created a playbook with some different 5 out and 4 out sets and would only play guys who could shoot or handle the ball except for one post player that came off the bench. I don't even bother with PF or SF who can't shoot or handle the ball. I have like 4 guys on the bench who I played with in the past but I don't anymore. I found this to be more effective than anything else that I have done on this game.

I'm in my second season and my starting lineup consists of one PG, three SG, and a SF who is about 6'8 and is very athletic. The first season we went to the Elite Eight (granted I'm only playing on the standard MOP and haven't touched the sliders) and this season we are currently 8-0. Trying this new style of lineups that is more dribble-drive oriented and doesn't have much reliance on post ups has made the game even more refreshing even after all this time!

Small update to bump this one back up in the forums:

Started another legacy (probably about my 15th total that I have seen through to year 40) this time at UC Davis, stayed I believe 5 years and finally got them to be a perennial conference championship team. Made the NCAA Tournament the last two years and exited in the round of 32 each time. Felt like I was sort of beating my head against a wall there with a solid team going (30-2) each year with little challenges throughout the season I left for the best mid-major job I could obtain: Missouri State. Year one with them has been pretty fun, I am losing 7 seniors and cut several freshmen/sophomore year players who I didn't want to waste the scholarship on. The reason I am posting the update is more for what happened in the post season. So I sneak into the NCAA tournament after a great run through the MVC Tourney, winning it easily with the help of some other upsets. I am a (13) seed and draw Xavier. Surprisingly I handle them relatively easily and cruise to a second round matchup with none other than UC Davis.... Keep in mind, that the entire roster is my team of recruits **** and some ***** players that amounted to an 86 or 87 overall team. I played a very solid game and was able to beat them for the third straight year in the round of 32, has to be frustrating for those players Either way, I won the next game against Washington St and have a game with Duke for a spot in my first Final Four. Just thought it was funny how the game matched me up with my old team the first year after I left them, almost like it has a sense of humor. The future is bright at Missouri State, I have 7 incoming players next year regardless of how this season plays out (hopefully top recruiting class worthy) and will have 5 open scholarships next year. So I will get 12 high caliber players over the next couple of seasons to test out on the court and hopefully bring a national title to the "Show Me State"

Hope everyone is enjoying this thread still and those of you still playing, hope its going well! Cheers to 2020!
