MJ agrees to help choose Olympic team

    <table cellspacing="8" cellpadding="0" border="0" width="100%"> <tbody><tr><td class="wiretap_key_header">MJ Agrees To Help Choose Olympic Team</td></tr><tr><td>2nd June, 2005
</td></tr><tr><td>The Chicago Tribune - In the hopes that “His Airness” displays a better knack for judging talent than he did in his days as an executive for the Washington Wizards (see Kwame Brown pick/Rip Hamilton trade/Tyronne Lue signing), USA Basketball, the governing body for the US Olympic Basketball team, has asked Michael Jordon to help select the players for the 2008 Summer Olympics.

Helping Jordan decide will be Magic Johnson, Larry Bird and Larry Brown, among other former players, coaches and general managers.

"I'm so grateful that these Olympians, both players and coaches, have chosen to assist, serve and engage in this process," said Phoenix Suns chairman Jerry Colangelo, who last month was appointed managing director of USA Basketball's senior men's program.

Question is, who would YOU choose to be on the next USA Basketball roster, and why would you choose these players?

this is a pretty good list by my man sdbulls

      Jason Kidd
      Joe Johnson
      LeBron James
      Garnett
      Duncan

Off the bench is Wade, Allen, Shaq, Ben Wallace, Ron Artest, Bruce Bowen, and Kirk Hinrich (sorry for the homer pick, but I was looking for a defensive-oriented PG who is pass-first and can play without the ball, I'd accept a worthy replacement who fits the description)

Kidd's shotty spot-up shooting makes me a bit weary of putting him on there, but he does everything so well and is unselfish enough to play with the likes of everyone else.

Joe Johnson is a very good defender who can shoot the spot-up three and play without the ball.

LBJ does pretty much everything, and is an excellent defender in his own right. He'd fit right in with any 4 other guys,

KG is a versatile PF who can play inside or out, and keep up with the faster-paced international game. His versatility will help him adjust to the international rules.

Duncan gets the nod over Shaq because he is such a better rebounder and defender. Him and KG would have to exploit the biggest advantage Americans have--size.

I filled out the roster with defense and shooting. Bowen is a tenacious defender who can shoot the 3.

Ron Artest is also a hell of a defender with intensity the team lacked last time. He's also got a more well-developed offensive game than he is given credit for.

Shaq is Shaq. Nobody in the world can guard him, but he has conditioning and defensive issues.

Ben Wallace is an athletic freak with a defensive prowess that would make anything inside the 3-point line his.

Allen would go nuts with his shooting and the closer 3-pt. line.

Dwyane Wade is a do it all who would fit in well with the international game.

Kirk, well, I already explained him.

I like KDRE's list. Allen said he would want to be paid for this though.

no he didnt. He said that theres a sentiment out there that if they want the big name players, they should be compensated. He never said he would only do it if paid.

I have a feeling there wont be any Isiah Thomas on this team either.
As Shaquille O'Neal left the Suns practice court, he yelled out, "Alvin's the coach. We must be the Clippers. And I must be Olowokandi. Nooooo!"
