I'm not giving Zo a free pass but Babcock was told by Thorn before the trade that Zo would not play for the Raptors and Babcock traded for him anyway. What idiot does that? Best case scenario is if Zo reports you have a disgruntled player who will be a cancer in the dressing room who has a multi years contract that would be untradeable and worst case you have a holdout who can't be suspended because he wasn't medically cleared to play which he took advantage of and was still untradeable.

In essence the Raps were held hostage by a player they didn't need or want and there was no upside in taking him off NJ's hands. Zo as a professional should of reported but it wasn't like Babcock wasn't warned. Rap fans should be angry at the GM's incompetence and lack of understanding with buyouts toward the salary cap in which he admittedly didn't know much about. This same incompetance resulted in Eric Williams being unhappy as if Babcock had actually did his homework and found out why Williams wanted to play in NJ he wouldn't of traded for him either but of course he rushed through the trade and Thorn made him look like a complete jackass.

It's OK to take salary on in a trade when a player is about to become a free agent(like Babcock should of done in any Carter trade) but trading for Zo made no sense whatsoever. Now if I was a NJ fan then Zo would be public enemy #1 for siging with the only team that was willing to take a chance with him and then turning his back on them when things didn't go his way.

He should shut up and realize he is Shaq's backup. He played plenty of minutes IMO.
Zo is a bum, people giving him leeway b/c of his kidney issues, but the guy is selfish & a ME player.

Except for one shot against the Celtics in the playoffs he hasn't accomplish jack, yet people sweat him based on potential when he 1st entered the NBA.

Yeah, nevermind that the guy was Defensive Player of the Year and was a hall of fame lock before his kidney disease. He was the power version of Duncan prior to it.

If I was risking my life playing on a basketball court, and missed about 3 years of my career due to a rare illness, I'd be a "me" player too. Zo is trying to make up for lost time, and he's also saying I'm not here to waste my time. He's an all-star caliber player and was one of the top 10 centers in the league this year. The thing is, at 6'10 he can play PF too, and he's probably upset that he wasn't on the court next to Shaq when the game was decided.

His declaration is also a message to the front office. They're likely going to trade Doleac anyway, but it could also be a message to trade Laettner or perhaps even let Haslem walk if they can fill a need at another position. Keyon Dooling, Shandon Anderson, and Rasual Butler are the backups on the perimeter. To say that could use an upgrade is an understatement.

If Zo is saying make me the primary backup PF/C then that means they can trade Doleac/Laettner for more help in other areas. I doubt Zo has any intention of retiring after coming the closest to an NBA Finals he's ever gotten, it's just talk.

Come on. You cant call a player a top 10 center when he plays so few minutes and so few games. Yes, if Zo plays 25+mpg every night, the guy still has skills and can easily be a top 10 center but the fact remains he hasn't shown he can do that (and definately didn't do it this season). Zo's one of the best backup Cs, but not a top 10 center.

Why? Zo has not shown since signing with NJ thta he is fully healed from his sickness, so what kinda of move would it to be trading away all your other backup PF and C and relying on Zo to either start at PF (which is what would happen if Halsem was not re-signed) or be the primary backup, giving up 20+ mpg.

Zo played like 15 games his first year in NJ in 03-04 and he got a good 30-40 games off between his stay in TOR and MIA in 04-05 (granted he still worked out but he never had to travel, play in live games, ect). He hasn't proved he can be that.

ANd if you think a apckage of L8ner and Doleac will give you anything special, your kidding yourself.

Oh, yes I agree. Babcock's deal with NJ was not a good one. Taking on Zo was not a smart move by any stretch but that doesn't mean Zo couldn't have acted professionally, played in TOR, up-ed his value and then look to be traded to Miami (despite their denial they would not trade for him).

            Re: Nazr Mohammed:

I think he had a pretty decent series against the Pistons. At least in the games in which the Spurs won, by grabbing some key offensive boards, or providing some shotblocking ability. He's not expected to be Tim Duncan, and he didn't play that well in Game 7, but in a few of the games that were played, I thought he played well.

He is descent copared to Rasho, but if you noticed during the last 4 games of the series, Tim has to play C while Horry play PF. It is because he was inefective as a C and if he will be left with Tim, there offense coming from Tim will suffer. At least playing Horry in the PF position, he can carry a share of the offensive burden Tim will sacrifice in favor of defense. If Tim can't hit anything, at least Horry can. With Nazr, if Tim can't hit anything, they are doomed.
