    Potentially waived players

Saw this on another board too... can you add more, and who do you think could pick these guys up, or what team they could help if it all happens?
As a result of CBA clause which allows teams to waive one player this year; to reduce dollar-for-dollar luxury tax on teams after payroll hits $65M

    ****Likely could be waived

TEAM Est. 2005 Payroll Left on Contract Potential Savings

    New York $108M
    *Allan Houston (2YRS/$40M) ($40M)

    Dallas $ 95M
    *Michael Finley (3YRS/$51M) ($51M)
    Tariq Abdurl-Wahad (2YRS/$15M) ($15M)

    Philadelphia $ 77M
    Chris Webber (3YRS/$62M) ($40-62M)
    *Jamal Mashburn (2YRS/$21M) ($21M)

    Orlando $ 72M
    Doug Christie (1YR/$8.2M) ($7M)

    Indiana $ 75M
    *Reggie Miller (1YR/$6.1M) ($6.1M)

    Los Angeles$ 72M
    Chucky Atkins (1YR/$4.5M) ($4.5M)

    Toronto $ 67M
Jalen Rose (see post below by N0dice: would save Raptors $15-20M)

    Miami $ 70M
    *Wang Zhizhi (1YR/$2.8M) ($2.8M)

I thought I read that the Mavs would save 15 million from the release of Fin-Dog, not 51 million.

How does this help the salary cap situations of those teams, though?

The only thing it does is open up a roster spot, and the salary is still on the books but it doesnt count against the cap for the luxury tax.

All this really is, is a money saver for the owners. Most of the clauses in this new CBA are all in favor of the owners.

So Mark Cuban wouldnt have to come out of the pockets an extra say 20 million in luxury tax money because he cut a high salary that was subtracted from the tax's threshold.

I believe this is a one time thing that can happen under the new CBA. Players get the money owed them for the remainder of the contract, but their salary doesn't count towards the cap.

The Pacers will not waive Reggie Miller.

Now Austin Croshere, I dont think so, but thats more likely.

It counts toward the cap, just not the luxury tax

Owners with big pockets will be all over this as they won't mind waiving a player, and still paying him big bucks.

I just wanna see allan houston out of the knicks i've never liked him, him and scott layden must of had something on the d/l cause man that contract was riduclous. Dolan should sell the team just for actually accepting this.

Moron isn't enough for that fool possibly the worst gm in the history, in front of mitch.

the day i like the knicks again is when houston is gone.

What about like Brian Grant or Eddie Jones. Both of those teams would really love to have their salaries off the books.
