How In The Hell Do You Get...

The AI players in NBA2K3 To defend down in the paint? Here's what I mean. When playing against the computer in my season, the stupid AI players will just stand there and let the ball handler drive right down the lane and score. I know I can switch to that player, but when I don't, these guys just stand there. Can any of the sliders be adjusted to fix this? Nothing sucks more than when your players just stand there and don't even jump to try and block a shot. There are times that you need to guard the outside guy, and when the guy makes a move and gets down in the paint, my players NEVER try and help to defend the shot. Is this just bad programing, or a setting that I can fix? Thanks for any advice.

Actually, it might have more to do with your defensive spacing. See how the AI sets up their offense, and where your AI teammates generally are on the floor. The ones closest to the man getting beat off the dribble should play loose on their defenders so they can help out and stop the penetration. Or you can have those AI teammates closest to the basket play loose so they guard the basket more than guarding their guy. They'll be able to either foul the player driving to the basket, block his shot, or make him miss the layup/dunk. Obviously, the AI will reconfigure their offense when they see what they're trying to do isn't working. They'll call a timeout to do this, and the next time they're on the floor they'll space the floor differently. Play through a few possessions and observe the spacing again, and adjust accordingly. That's how I did it in NBA 2k2, and there were times when my AI teammates had 6 blocked shots in a single game. Given that blocking shots is so hard in NBA 2k2, I think that's a very good number. I was playing with the Wizards. And you will be able to foul the person who's driving to the basket better or just plain stop him and force him to shoot pull up jumpers.
