Re: Duncan vs Olajuwon
Eh, Olajuwon by a pretty wide margin IMO.
He had that unstoppable, go-to signature move that he scored on 90% of the time. Duncan doesn't have that."You make your name in the regular season, and your fame in the postseason." - Clyde Frazier

as a huge Rockets fan, I will have to agree with you 100%, to bad Duncan wasn't on the spurs back when Olajuwon made David Robinson look silly, they could have try to swith by putting Ducan on Olajuwon, then Olajuwon could have made Ducan look silly tooOriginally posted by ehhEh, Olajuwon by a pretty wide margin IMO.

TD plays a lot of center. Especially when Horry is in the ball game.Comment

Re: Duncan vs Olajuwon
Hakeem was crazy. Rediculous post moves (made me nauseous watching them) and an unstoppable fade...
Not to mention his defensive abilities. He's one of those players that don't get talked about enough for how incredibly good he was.Member of The OS Baseball Rocket Scientists AssociationComment

No fair, Hakeem's footwork kills Duncan. See Hakeem vs Shaq in the Finals in the 90s.Comment

Re: Duncan vs Olajuwon
You guys remember Hakeem pretty fondly.
Of course if you compare Hakeem at his best to the Duncan we just saw (certainly not at his best) you're going to say Hakeem.
Hakeem wasn't the unstoppable force you guys remember him as all the time.Comment

Re: Duncan vs Olajuwon
Exactly which makes Hakeem that much greater. At his best he is still better than Duncan at his best. Hakeem had some serious big men during his time in the league. Duncan doesnt have that equilizer or fram of reference for his career. There arent a whole slew of great PF's right now, esp that are on Duncan's level. Hakeem played against Shaq, Ewing, Smits, etc..all good big men (offensively and defensively).Originally posted by Admiral50I was about to say the same thing.Comment

Re: Duncan vs Olajuwon
I'd take Hakeem every day of the week and twice on Sunday. Infact i'd take Hakeem over any center in NBA history. As Shaquille O'Neal left the Suns practice court, he yelled out, "Alvin's the coach. We must be the Clippers. And I must be Olowokandi. Nooooo!"Comment

Re: Duncan vs Olajuwon
Well geee...I wouldnt expect a Spurs fan to NOT put Duncan over Hakeem. I think in team playing, Duncan is probably the better player. Floureshes more in a team game. One on one though, There is NO context. Hakeem beats Duncan 8 or 9 times out of 10 games. Hakeem is basically Tim Duncan with probably the best foot work and manuverablity of any center ever.Originally posted by Admiral50I was about to say the same thing.

Re: Duncan vs Olajuwon
Man you just brought back some painful memories. I was so happy when the Spurs had reached the conference finals. I just KNEW they were going to eat the Rockets for lunch.Originally posted by FootballForeveras a huge Rockets fan, I will have to agree with you 100%, to bad Duncan wasn't on the spurs back when Olajuwon made David Robinson look silly, they could have try to swith by putting Ducan on Olajuwon, then Olajuwon could have made Ducan look silly too
Then freaking Olajuwon brought out this move I've never seen him do before. The "Dream Shake". Man he playing a game of now you see me, now you don't with David Robinson. I'm not sure of the points per game Dream put up but I can remember him averaging well above 40.
To make matters worse, most of the games were blowouts. My friends still rag me about it to this day 10 years later.
I hate to say it but the 94-96 Dream would eat Duncan in his prime any day of the week and 3 times on Sunday.
Olajuwan > Duncan
Duncan has better post moves than Hakeem. But Hakeem's over all game (footwork, defense, shooting) was just impossible to stop, let alone hold down.Comment
