Parents will probably hold their kids back a year in high school so they will be 19 when the draft comes so they won't have to go to college.

Why would they do that? That makes no sense.

I heard that Brandon Rush is going to sit out the year and work with one of the larger sports agencies and then re-enter the draft next year.

If this works out for him, I'm sure more and more will take the year off and wait. This way, they can practice more and not have to worry about maintaining grades.

Because they would actually have to go to class in college.

I think they finally realized the if you take a HS kid, chances are you're gonna get screwed. Even if they do eventually develop, it won't be for at least 3 years, so by the time he's just starting to come into his own his rookie contract will be expiring so he can run off to a big market or to join a contender.

And all you got outta it was a headache and a babysitting job for 3 years.

I agree that in general (with exceptions for can't miss guys like LeBron, Kobe and KG) the risk/reward is too low on the HS players and the development needed doesn't help the GM/Coach that is in place neccesarily, since it does take so long. I feel the same way with the Euro guys, in general these 18-19 year old international guys are too much of a boom or bust pick to be worth a Top 15 pick.

you can't just hold your kid a year back from school. i thought the rule was you have to be at least 1 year out of HS

Yep, the new rules states you must be 19 by the end of the year you are drafted AND be one year removed from H.S. graduation.

What will this accomplish? They still have to be 1 year out of HS......
