But who wants Marbury? He's simply not a winning player. Not many teams are going to want him.

Could we please put this LeBron to New York stuff to bed. The guy is not going anywhere. I've read that LeBron is interested in discussing a long-term contract "as soon as the new collective-bargaining agreement allows."After more than eight years on here, I finally figured out how to edit my time zone!Comment

As a Cavs fanatic, I hate this more than anything in the world...but Bron is completely smitten with everything Rockafella, and Jay-Z has been a good friend to LeBron since the HS days. I'd bet my life that the Nets organization will slowly clear cap space for him over the next 3 years. Even though CLE can offer more money, some of that is negated by his Nike clauses, not to mention the fact that this kid will make a mint in endorsements anyway.
Also, Look at the Cavs organization...they haven't shown a lick of competency or consisitency since the Price/Nance/Daugherty days. This is the 3rd straight year they've completely blown up the roster. Great job, guys...gotta love that for your young Megastar. Heck, even the city itself is crap now. Honestly, its gonna take a miracle for us to keep this dude.
BTW, Has anyone peeped the new XXL cover? Link
Back on topic, IMO, Hughes was waaaay overpaid. Folks blame the leagues youth on the state of B-Ball, but GM's mis-judging talent and spending tons of cash on average players is what really hurts most teams. Money is spent on politics instead of championship building. Are Redd, Johnson or Hughes on AI, T-Mac, Kobe or even PP level? I don't think so, yet teams continue to pay 3rd tier players "AI" money because the league is driven by outside factors like name recognition and silly bidding wars for "good-not-great" players. Joe Johnson would have been the perfect piece for us, yet Gilbert and the Cavs had him as there fourth option!?
No knock against Hughes, but I see dark, dissapointing years ahead for us poor Cavs fans...Last edited by HMcCoy; 07-10-2005, 08:56 PM.Hank's Custom Collectibles 3D printer/painter extraordinaireComment

Bingo!, but Stern once again propped the rules to protect them.
Im not sure about the dark days, but If LBJ doesnt see any help in sight after a few more years, you can believe he'll consider leaving, no matter if he's in his hometown or not (tmac)Comment

Re: Hughes to CLE 12 mil ?
New Jersey's not going to be able to move both Carter and Kidd to make that happen. New York will not have cap room. The question is, would LeBron go to a team not in a big market? Within two years, if this organization shows no hope, it doesn't deserve to keep him. But, I don't see how they won't be a contender in the next two years. Hey, if they're a lottery team, what if they end up with Greg Oden when LeBron's contract is up? Then you have a scenario like Michael Redd had in Milwaukee. After more than eight years on here, I finally figured out how to edit my time zone!Comment

The cavs are trying to put a playoff team together but i believe lebron will end up with the nets down the roadComment

Re: Hughes to CLE 12 mil ?
James won't be leaving unless this franchise cannot do anything these next two years. When the Nets move to Brooklyn and get two-thirds of their big money players off the cap, I will believe that suggestion.
I believe a key for Cleveland is parting ways with Zydrunas Ilgauskas. A lot of people will say you can't let go of a 7-foot-3 center who can play. But, this is also a center who does not fit into the running style coach Mike Brown wants. Cleveland's best opportunity is the sign-and-trade with New Orleans that has been whispered. The Cavaliers would get Magliore, and I'm assuming P.J. Brown and Lee Nailon.
As for the new point guard, it may be Damon Jones instead of Antonio Daniels. Daniels is asking for a little bit more. After more than eight years on here, I finally figured out how to edit my time zone!Comment

Re: Hughes to CLE 12 mil ?
However, LBJ will be a RFA I believe so when NY signs him to an offer sheet, Cleveland will simply match. As mentioned, LBJ to NY is not happening.Originally posted by Kashanovaif marbury leaves the knicks if lebrons contract ends at full length the knicks should have at least 20 in the cap
And as far as CLE being a contender, I think they're well on the way to being a very good team. I dont see them winning a championship in the next 2 years, but they look like they'll easily be imrpoved next season and make the playoffs. Didn't they finish like one spot out this past year? Adding Hughes w/o giving away anything easily puts them into the playoffs, assuming "Z" comes back.Comment

Re: Hughes to CLE 12 mil ?
IF McGinnis' attitude wasnt so horrible the cavs would have been the either the 4th seed or @ best the 2nd Seed...They dropped off when Silas and "Jmac" bumped heads pause. We went from bein the #1 in the central to almost last...There record would have better than the Bulls or even Detroit if we would have kept on playin like we were. But theres really no excuseComment

Good news...I was wrong, wrong, wrong.
The Beacon Journal reported that James Nike contract does NOT have a big market clause.Hank's Custom Collectibles 3D printer/painter extraordinaireComment

I didn't read the entire piece, so I'm not sure. They did mention that several of his smaller endorsement contracts have that clause, so most media sources assumed the Nike deal had it too.Hank's Custom Collectibles 3D printer/painter extraordinaireComment

Re: Hughes to CLE 12 mil ?
I've never heard Nike deny it myself. Im just not so sure he really cares about gaining more money although his status will command a large contract one way or another, no matter where his is.
Is that enough to lure him away? I dont think so.
I think if anything it would be constant losing, but it looks like they're moving away from that kind of direction.Comment
