    Fun with DBF files... :)

I just messed with the DBF files from the NBA Live demo in Excel and tried a few things:

    1) Subbed out the Lakers entire starting 5 for Slava, Horry, George, Rush, and Murray (and won 20-10 on Superstar!) [players.dbf]

    2) Changed the Lakers uniform to 2002-03 alternate. The text was different on the uniform select screen, but the uniforms were the same. So I guess the graphics for the other uni's aren't in the demo. [teamgear.dbf]

    3) Changed the coaches "behavior" from 0 to 1 and 2 for Phil and Byron. Didn't notice a difference, but then again I wasn't paying close attention. [coaches.dbf]

    4) Swapped the locations hoping to play in NJ, but it didn't work. [location.dbf]

Seems like there's all sorts of stuff you can do with the full game. The teams.dbf especially. Looks like you can change their tendencies to use certain moves like crossovers and pivots, as well as their defensive tendencies (zone vs. man)... very interesting...

Ha! tried to create myself in the players.dbf file, but it didn't quite work:

    Here's Kidd blowing by me:

The cool thing was, when I tried to do the crazy freestyle moves, i would usually dribble the ball off my foot, just like in real life. lol

Go to My documents and then click on the NBA Live 2003 demo folder and then database and finally originaldb. Your path should look like this:
            Documents and Settings\j\My Documents\NBA Live 2003 Demo\database\originaldb

That is where all of the dbf files are located...team, players, coaches and so on. Open one of the files, like players, in excel. I always adjust the column widths so I can read the header rowns. To do that select the entire worksheets and then select colums from the format menu. A drop down menu will apear and click on autofit selection.
Then simply read the headers and change those columns you want to.

            Have fun

i hope we'll be abe to change the block in this game. it's a pain having EVERY block sail outta bounds...
I am glad I got the Buell- I love riding it, I love the oddball looks I get on the road- I love people asking "What IS that thing?" I love flying into a corner WAY too hot, scared spitless and sure I'll never hold it at this speed- and hearing the bike whisper "Sissy!"...

I haven't tried adjusting the player ratings, but I noticed when i put in all the subs, the game was much more toned down. I'll probably mess with the block and steal ratings tonight.

You really dont need excel, you can just use any old DBF editor. matter of fact, just use your search engine and type (DBF editor) and find a site that you can download one from.
Thats what I did for 2001, I have'nt tried 2003 yet but I'm pretty sure this will work.

Jasonlin, here is a link to a DBF editor. whitetown
Just install, open up, and when inside, click open and go to your Live 2003 demo file, click it and look for the DBF files.

i did my own dbf edits and this is what i did

                      changed everyones fg -20
                      3pts -10
                      steals-20
                      speed -10

OMG--game plays different, I'm still tweaking but it's actually quite fun. It's definetly getting me more and more excited about the release.

Yea, tell me about it. Just the thought of being able to change the game up with ease after playing the console version just make me wanna put my hand in my pants and..........nevermind.
                        Lets just say I'm excited.
