Reviewers who don't know their topic...

Is it just me or does anyone else find it crazy that reviewers can say things like (quote) “One concern that I have is with the AI is their decision making on Defense. There is no way that I should have 50 points with Kobe Bryant and not see a double team the entire game. I didn’t notice it until it was mentioned in the forums but the AI doesn’t double-team a hot player” and then give a game a 95 rating and say it’s the best true simulation of NBA basketball? This is a FUNDAMENTAL flaw.

I am not trying to take a shot at NBA 2K3, but that’s a huge, huge weakness in the game right there. I remember playing 2K2 Philly v Portland, using Portland and I played the 6'7 Pippen as SG and simply posted up the 6'1 Iverson every time I went down the court for a quarter. Pippen got hot and was scoring at will. The double never came, which was hugely disappointing. From that moment on, my love of the game seemed to drop.

I then read a review today about ID2003 from gamingage where the guy says “you can hit three pointers from half court with star players at will” and how “the only type of pass you’ll ever have to make in ID2003 is when inputting the ball as you can take your man right to the hoop and dunk easy”. Now, that’s simply NOT true. It’s not even remotely true. It would be like me reviewing ‘The Ring’ and saying “a tender love story…one for the kids to enjoy” or “Conan O’Brien – the best serious political show on TV”.

I don’t know what some of the reviewers are smoking. Honestly, some guys must play one or two games on rookie and review a game. Pretty poor form.

I don’t want to sound like an ID2003 die hard, as I am a big fan, but I have to defend it against some ridiculous reviews. Not ONE single review has mentioned what I consider to be THE most important feature in a NBA sim, and that is… real team playing styles.

Play ID2003 and theirs Pierce and Walker hoisting three’s for the Celtics, theirs Duncan and Robinson posting up for the Spurs, there’s Shaq fronting the triangle for LA as Fisher and Horry get free shots when you double him etc etc. This is VITAL imo. It’s the main reason I can play a whole season, as I have a different challenge every night. It’s the one game I’ve ever played where I have had to consider how I match up on teams. Ie, using Detroit I seem to struggle against teams that shoot the three well, as my guards aren’t great defenders, but match up well against teams that muscles up inside as I have Big Ben and Corliss inside fighting them. I love this feature. Screw the fancy dunks and sounds etc…give me real playing styles each and every day. Not one reviewer has touched on this except the guy here on Op Sports…. which shows how little most of them must know.

Yeah I've seen posts like this before. It happens sometimes when you add comas to then end of your words. I think its a forums glitch.

Trying again. It seems this forum doesn't like inverted commas etc. Not helpful when quoting!

It happens mostly when you cut and paste from word.

Monkey, try copying and pasting this document into Notepad, and then change the "'s from what Word uses to what Notepad uses. They are different looking quotes and I bet it fixes the issue.

Re: Reviewers who don\'t know their topic...

Agreed, the AI is always different evrytime Iplay and its so awsome that way. I just read the OXM review in which it was a horrible review IMO. They said that Live turns into a dunkfest everysingle game adn that the game is way to aracd-y and says that the game is a button masher...yet it gets rated higher then both ID and 2k3. I understand they praise the new control sheme but when a sim is a dunkfest It should get no higher then a 8 it gt an 8.9.

in their 2k3 review they said that the player feels to much like they are running into walls and the game feels stiff overall, but they said it had the best presentation and only one of the 3 that supports XBOX live (8.8) I agree with that review although it didn't get into much detail at all about whats good and whats bad about it like a areview should

then the trash the heck out of ID....first they say a surprisingly fun game with the best post up game of the 3...silky smooth with a good franchise and deep CAP. Then they say the game is the ugliest of the bunch, I quote " its ugly and glitchy" thats really weird because last year they said the game had the best graphics for any basket ball game, and this year the game only improves on its graphics more then last year and its ugy? they gave it a 7.9 after saying that its in between the gameplay of nba 2k3 and live, they said that Its not as slow or stiff as 2k3 but not as arcadish as live..hmmm that sounds great to me so y give it a 7.9? and the dunkfest gets a 8.9?

I trust OS review and Iam getting ID soon.

Seriously guys, why the hell do you even look at the number ratings? They are different for each person, let alone each game and each site. They mean nothing.

As for the overall reviews, they should be looked at with a grain of salt, no matter how much you trust the source. I like to read reviews, read opinions in this forum, then play the games and read more reviews and opinions. Post your own opinions as well. We like reading them and adding them to the huge file of info we can use before buying a game.

Re: Reviewers who don\'t know their topic...

He didn't have a problem with the score... he had a problem with what was written in the review. I think he was mad that a reviewer actually fabricated stuff and added it to the review... like the thing about hitting half court shots in ID 2003... which *IS* rediculous to say cause it just isn't even remotely true. I just tried Drik in practise half court, 30 shots in a row and not even one went in... so this reviewer is just lying.

Nevermind Gaming-Age.. they are complete idiots over there. Most of their reviews consist of the reviewer reading other reviews and rewriting stuff they read as their own.

Operation-Sports is the only source I really trust on sports games, cause like at IGN, you have platformer gamers trying to play sports games... leading it off with "I normally don't like or play sports games but"

Yeah, why don't they just STFU then... like I want some dolt who doesn't like, enjoy or even KNOW HOW to play a sports game giving me a review.
