What's up with the spike in scoring?

I was browsing around www.basketball-reference.com and I was looking at the scoring averages for the entire league. Two things I noticed:

    1) The entire league scoring average was 106.1, the highest it's been since 1997.

    2) Only 1 team, New Orleans Hornets, averaged less than 100 points per games. And they only missed it at .8 points at 99.2.

I know scoring has been down compared to scoring averages in the past but anyone want to chime in on why scoring averages went up last year?

More teams were playing an uptempo style like in the 80s. The main team to lead the charge in bringing back that style of play are the Suns. I think more teams will try going with an uptempo game for the most part.

The NBA changing the rules each year to benefit the offensive player.

        Those stats aren't correct

If you're saying that 29 of the 30 teams averaged 100ppg or more, you're incorrect. Scoring was up, but not to that extent. NBA.com says that 6 teams averaged 100ppg or more this past year.

I see what you were saying. You mistook the Rtg rating for the PPG rating.

The NBA average for points was 97.2 ppg.
