NBA 2K3 Just NOT A Challenge?
Ok when I first got the game, it was nothing but a challenge, it takes a couple days to get the feel and really be able to accomplish what you're doing on the court, but once you get the feel, that's it...we've come up with sliders, defensive strategies, everything we possibly could and yet I can take Denver into Minnesota game 1 of the season and win, or take Cleveland into their opener at Sacramento, and win...sometimes I watch CPU v CPU, and they get it right, Cle @ Sac, Sac WILL win by 20, and they should. I wish this game was more of a challenge because its a great game, and I actually try to make it a challenge, I don't just go for dunks and layups, I run offenses, I change up defenses and strategies depending on personal, even play with weaker teams...but it doesn't seem to be enough...what are your thoughts out there?Tags: None -

Re: NBA 2K3 Just NOT A Challenge?
I have to agree arenas, I just finished a game of Portland and Minnesota, they were up for about 20 most of the game but I came back in the 4th to win it by 4, while I had a blast playing the game, I am now 13-5 in the season and its been quite awhile since i've lost. Like you, It was a challenge the first few days but now I can win every game it seems, not a blow out but I still win. Maybe it's my team I don't know, but hey I'm still having fun. I just think it would be more fun if I lose a few more games.Comment

Why not up the cpu sliders to max if you're that good. It seems that would cause you to have to play a game of very aggressive defense, and carefully select what strategy you pick. Just a thought. Look on the bright side too, there are two college games coming out.Comment

Re: NBA 2K3 Just NOT A Challenge?
MM 2003 doesn't count as a college game..
I know you're not crying, I understand exactly what you mean. I think about that same thing every once in awhile. I can't wait for Cball 2k3 either. I may give mm a rent like I did Live, but I'm curious to see what Sega has to offer to the college game.Comment

Uhh..ya maybe if this were 1990, but since its not...the Clips are a definite potential playoff team...your remark would have been better if you had said Nuggets or Cavs, but u didn't...Comment

The Clippers just lost to Denver...and are heading again to being the great dissapointment of the NBA. They are now 3 and 8? I can't work them a\out at all...Comment

The Clippers are missing two of their stars that are very important to their team. Wait till Q and Odom comes back you will change that tune.Comment

Re: NBA 2K3 Just NOT A Challenge?
I've been playing ID 2003 and NBA 2k3, and there's just no way NBA 2k3 is more of a sim than ID 2003, IMHO. They've got quite a few problems from where I'm standing. ID 2003 has its problems, but they're not that huge. For one thing, the fact that you can keep turboing and running into a defender without consequence in NBA 2k3 (without so much as a turnover from a charge being called or the defender slapping the ball away), makes NBA 2k3 still a very easy game in terms of penetrating into the paint and taking high percentage shots. Granted, if you reduce close shot percentage, layup percentage, and dunk percentage, you'll miss a lot more; ID 2003 doesn't exactly keep you from getting into the paint either. Still, NBA 2k3 doesn't make you worry about taking care of the ball and not forcing things too much, while ID 2003 does.
Second of all, ID 2003 has WAY more defensive options than NBA 2k3 does. For example, look at the defensive options ID 2003 has. They have forcing middle, forcing outside, forcing off-hand, straight up, and the zones as well. They also have full court pressure and half court traps which are actually EFFECTIVE because defenders can force turnovers and slap balls away if it's a poor ball handler in control of the ball while bringing it up the court. NBA 2k3 just has zones and they use full court pressure and play man to man, that's it (they have more, but that's ALL they use). And all they do to cause turnovers is to just play passing lanes. There's more to stealing the ball than just playing the passing lanes. Also NBA 2k3 (and NBA 2k2), I've noticed, has this fake kind of opportunity for you to steal the ball, where the defender will be looking another way and leave the ball extremely exposed as if to say, "here, take this ball, because this is your chance". They need to make defenders aggressive in trying to take the ball away from you. Like ID 2003, IMHO.
Third of all, the blocking fouls. This ties in with the first since charge and blocking fouls are related, but you should not be shooting free throws most of the time when a blocking foul is called. Especially when you haven't even released your shot. A blocking foul shouldn't just be called when just in the middle of a layup attempt, or something to that effect either. In ID 2003 blocking fouls are called accurately (I found that they do call blocking fouls and they're pretty good at doing so, IMHO) and few of them ever result in a free throw attempt. The only time they do result in a free throw attempt are when the other team's over the limit.
Also, the post-up game has gone from too effective to barely effective now. And without good reason either. For one thing, you should be able to back down your defender effectively (you can do this, but the AI can't, and that's the major flaw really). Also, defenders should collapse into the paint to steal the ball when a player's posting up. ID 2003 does this very well, and it's never ALWAYS a steal unlike in NBA 2k2 where it was always a steal. Sometimes it ends up in a reach-in foul the way it should be.
Doubleteaming should actually happen in NBA 2k3, but it doesn't that much (another major flaw), but ID 2003 has double teaming.
For ID 2003 however, a few problems exist as well.
For instance, not enough free thow attempts, and too many field goal attempts. And they need better crossovers and the defense should be a BIT tougher regarding penetration. There needs to be more atmosphere to the game (crowds should boo a hated player or a player who's torching their team whenever he handles the bal, the crowd should be more audible, yells of "you suck" and taunts should be heard in the crowd, there should be organ music, etc.) Passing should be slower a bit, as well and smarter (like skip passes on a fastbreak or something like that). Other than that, I can't think of anything else wrong with ID 2003.
Both games are great, but at this point I'd choose ID 2003 as the true sim, and best b-ball game so far.Comment

i must agree with arenas, this game is a little bit too easy. but hey nba live is way way way too easy. so just think of it that way."If everyone is thinking alike, then somebody isn't thinking." -- George S. Patton, Jr.
