Has T-mac fallen off this year?

I dont see the same t-mac this year that i have seen in past years. It seems he doesnt have the same explosion he use to going to the rim and become basically a jump shooter. Maybe it has something to do with his back, What are your thoughts?

Age and injuries is catching up to him to some extent. He doesn't seem to have that edge he used to have either. I watched the Raptors game against the Rox and he looked VERY uncomfortable against the double team. The announcers were even wondering if something was wrong with him.

EDIT: I know he isn't that old but he's already played quite a while in the NBA some players bodies can't take the grind of that schedule that well. I think he still can show explosiveness at times it's just that I think he picks and chooses when to be aggressive.

His production is pretty much what is usually is, but it seems clear that his injuries(and the way defenses are playing him and the Rockets) are having an affect on his shooting % and how much he's attacking the rim.

This is obviously just speculation on my part, but I wonder if has the best strength and conditioning people working with him during the off season. If the bad back ends up being something congenital as opposed to being a result of his S and C work, then that will definitely shorten his career.

give it a couple more months guys, it's still early too speculate. He just came off an injury so give him time, and I'm sure he will get back into a groove. If not, then you can create another thread of the same thoughts.

I would argue that back injuries limit explosivness more than any other injury(Knee, ankle, etc.) If your back is thrashed then you've got nothing. Look what it did to Larry Johnson. It changed him from being a dunk contest participant to a player who was envious of Charles Oakley's hops.

Well, he did overtrain this offseason without resting at all, and that gave him the tendonitis in his knees he had in the preseason, but with rest that goes away.

His back was borderline, then he got low bridged in practice and it bruised his spine.

He probably wont ever be 100% to be honest with you, but as he said, he'll just play through the pain.

The only thing that'll stop him from playing is when his back tightenes up to the point he can barely move. His trainer isnt the issue. That guy is a pretty good trainer.

He doesnt have the same lift or whatnot and only being back 6-7 games, he'll have slow out of the gate moments.

If you saw the shot he made against the Lakers to win the game, it was a pretty difficult layup, and without some athleticism, no way you could make a shot like that.

As far as like the game against the Raptors, all they had to do was double and triple him.

JVG has this thing about making the right plays, not going solo on instincts.... which is why he had 11ast, but I blame the coach on that one, because he should at least learn by now to call some iso's for a guy like this, call some double screen plays, and a few post up plays, but he insists on sticking live and die with the screen and roll at the top of the key.

Although though Tmac immediately gets doubled, and with Yao out, and no real shooters to spread the floor, all they have to do is take the lane from him, and double him, and force the others to beat them, which are scrubs and some 3rd stringers.

When Houston gets healthy (Yao) and gets some players around him that can take the burden off him, he'll be back to himself. He's only, what 26 or 27 years old. Trying to carry a team below 100% is difficult.
