Dear EASports,
First I would like to thank EASports for making NBA Live 2003 such a success. Even though Live 2003 is very huge leap from Live 2002, there are still a few problems that could made Live 2003 a better game than NBA 2k3. Please take my requests into consideration I am a consumer. I also possess a very knowledgeable basketball mind, so also please take my requests into consideration. I am sending you this letter because I know that Sega will not open my letter let alone listen to my phone calls. I trust that EASports will take care of their fans.
1. Running the baseline: Live was the only game not to allow the player to run the baseline after a made shot. This allows people to have the option to make better passes when inbounding the ball. I am sure that you already know this, but it will be inexcusable for Live 2004 not to have this feature.
2. Unrealistic ratings: even though this does not matter since you allow us to edit ratings, the ratings, especially the speed ratings were overly exaggerated.
3. Arcade style blocks: I am sure that people complained about how the blocks are just NBA Jam Style. The majority of the blocks just fly into the backcourt. Why? Please attempt to fix this problem
4. Ability to edit heads: It was frustrating that you all would not allow us to edit player’s
heads. You give us the option to edit, to keep up with current player models, but then you limit us on what we can/cannot do. Please editing player heads should be allowed in Live 2004.
5. Fake passing: This is a very minute problem but NBA Live 99 for the PSX allowed us to fake pass. NBA 2k3 allowed us to fake pass, why the downgrade? EASports is better than that.
6. Dunking. Everybody cant windmill. This is where I think EASports gets lazy. First of all, every player should have a label as to what type of dunker they are. The options should be power, flashy, and basic. I am sure you understand what I am trying to say. Power dunkers like Shaq and Ben Wallace. Flashy dunkers like Vince, Jason Richardson. And basic dunkers like Shareef Abdur-Rahim. Also the dunking rating system should be as the followed. You should place 2 dunk ratings in the system. One should be frequency and the other should be creativity. This can be used if you do not understand or buy my 1st request. Frequent dunkers include Shaq. Of course frequency is how often the person will dunk. Creativity would be the amount of different dunks that one should be able to do. Windmills and 360’s should not be able to be done in traffic like Live 2003 allows us to do. Each player should have a list of dunks that he would be able to perform. I do not know how advanced EASports is but is it possible to only do 360’s and Windmills on fast breaks, when the player is by himself? Just something to think about.
7. Practice mode: the player should have the option to have practice with the whole team, if desired, and the option to have defense present in practice mode. Free throw practicing should also be allowed during practice mode.
8. Inbound plays: as with inbounding plays, the player should have the option to run inbounds plays. The players have no type of logic; they just stand there and wait for the ball. Not working EASports. Please correct this problem.
9. Sound effects: Why is it at times when a players elevates for a dunk, it sounds as though a rocket is taking off. I think EASports needs to have more realistic basketball sound effects. Blocks are so loud and full of bass. The rim in Live is so annoying. Why does it have to be so loud? Make it realistic. Go to an actual gym and shoot, hit the rim, and listen. Or go watch an NBA game, the rim is not that loud. SO please take care of this. The crowd should be more interactive and not be so defaulted. Booing the home team while losing should happen, also booing the away team should happen at times. Booing should also occur after a bad call by the ref. I think you all can do a much better job than that. The PA Announcer has kept the same speech patterns since Live 97. You got lazy on this aspect also; thinking nobody would notice it. But hey, I did.
10. Franchise mode: Everyone that I know has been furious with EASports for their lack of effort placed into the franchise mode. Instead of using that point system, why not use actual money. It is present in Madden 2003. Why not spend as much time and effort on Live as There should be an option to view hot/cold players for the week. And this time would you please base it on actual performance and not just be some random nonsense. Too many things in franchise mode are random; i.e. the players ratings increasing/decreasing. I do not know what constitutes a player’s rating jumping or dropping, but EASports needs to do a better job of making the changes accurate. The ability to adjust the schedule would be greatly appreciated. But remember you have restrictions to on this because each team has to play each other team in their conference and/or division a certain amount of times. So keep that into consideration too.
11. Created Players: I did not enjoy only being able to select from a few African American faces. Instead of only having head changes, you should allow skin changes also. You should be able to change the face, and then change the color of the skin. Every other basketball game allows it, but Live 2003 doesn’t. Come on EASports, I am starting to lose faith in you. Also when creating a player, you should allow us to pick the shooting range for the person. It was present in Live 99, but for some reason EASports left that option out.
12. Rim physics: SegaSports’ NBA 2k3 displayed the most beautiful rim physics ever displayed in a video game. This was a very enjoyable thing to watch. I was annoyed at the inconsistency of Live 2003’s free throw makes. If I PERFECTLY positioned the horizontal/vertical balls, I still did not make it in ALL net. That was odd. Certain points should depict certain types of makes. You need to work more on rim physics.
Now I am sure that I did enough complaining. I am sure that you receive thousands of these every year, but all I want is just for my letter to be read. Please take all of my ideas into consideration when creating the next basketball game. Live 2004 should be the greatest game ever, not sports game, game ever. But it is up to EASports to listen to their fans. The fans that they still have, that have not yet flocked to Sega Sports.
