    Re: Dirk vs Tom Chambers

If Dirk and Chambers played one on one (both players in their primes)...Dirk would probably win

Right now Dirk has not showed he belongs in the top 50 greatest players of all time. Bird is a legend long before he retire in the NBA while Dirk has not yet learned how to play both end of the court.

          Re: Dirk vs Tom Chambers

I remeber playing lakers vs Celtics and the nba playoffs for the genesis and they gave chambers the unstoppable special move of the double pump dunk from the three point line. I don't remember him in seattle but while he was in phoenix he was a big time scorer until KJ and Hornacek took over the scoring.

As for dirk or chambers, I'd have to say dirk. His game is just better all around. Infact its kind of ironic actually this comparison. If you look at dirk's game, it reminds you more of a classic all around player of yester year while tom has more of what alot of today's athletes have. That explosive slashing move with little else i.e. passing, blocks and ball handling.

If you took an impartial viewer of both players and asked them which reminded you of today's game and which of yester year that person would probably say tom best fits today's players while dirk seems more like the throw back.

Tom Chambers wins this for me.... because of his ability to get to the whole. Something Dirk is allergic of. By the time his career is over he will have reverted to the Jump shot even more so I dont see it changing much.

Thats if he survived. TC would've roughed his *** up...real bad.

Defense back in the day you could get away with hand checks and riding someone on the hip.

              Dirk wouldnt survive the torture.

                  Wait.

Tom Chambers' career high for FT attempts is 8.0 and his average is 5.7 in 30.6 MPG. Dirk's career high was last season where he went 9.1 per and he's at 7.4 per this season.

I dont think Dirk is nearly the driver or penetrator that Chambers was, but to say Dirk is "allergic" to going to the hole is slightly off.

FT Attempts are different because the game was called differently back then. No hand checking rule back then, fouls on contact compared today were not the same at all. All that flopping these players do today wouldn't fly back then. Dirk goes to the hole not to finish but to get contact expecting to get bailed out with a foul call. Being able to finish and getting to freethrow line is 2 seperate matters.

LSU, I agree 100% with you.

Dirk is a very bad finisher. When he gets bumped in the lane, he just throws the ball to the rim and goes to the line to get the two points as he's a 86%+ FT shooter. Thats one thing that makes me mad.

However, the guy I quoted said Dirk was allergic to going inside, which I took as he never drove to the hole and was afraid to do so. Dirk proven last year and this year that he will take the contact. Now he's not a phsyical-enough player to finsih with contact but again, that has nothing to do with actually going to the hole.

                        Re: Dirk vs Tom Chambers

Dirk and Chambers are nowhere near the same... just because they play similar positions and share similar looks doesn't make them the same type or caliber player.

Dirk settles for mid/long range shooting... Tom Chambers used to drive, drive, and drive some more... he attacked the basket... therefore, they aren't the same.
